THIRTEEN Juve players up for sale, would these 8 interest us?

|

With Juventus finishing seventh last season, a total revamp of the squad has got underway with also changes at all levels of the club. A new chairman in Andrea Agnelli, a new sporting director in Giuseppe Marotta and a new manager in Luigi Del Neri, have all been put in place. Players have also begun to arrive and leave the club with Fabio Cannavaro the most notable departure so far after his contract expired. Juve have also brought in 5 new players already in Jorge Martinez for €12million, Leonardo Bonucci for €15.5million and Italian international Simone Pepe on loan from Udinese. It has left the “Old Lady” with a massive squad of 35 players, and with Del Neri and Marotta still wanting to bring in new players such as Milos Krasic and Edin Dzeko; money must be raised from the sales of unwanted squad personnel. Marotta has been tasked, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, with selling no less than 13 players. Some of the most notable players for sale are listed below. Would Liverpool be interested in any of these players?

David Trezeguet – At 32 years of age, the French international striker is no spring chicken but his goal ratio for Juve is not something to be scoffed at. 137 goals in 242 appearances makes him the club’s leading all time foreign goalscorer. He has been most heavily linked with a move to cash-strapped Valencia, although there is also interest from Turkey, according to his agent Antonio Caliendo. He said to calciomercato.it: “They’re (Valencia) examining their financial situation following the club’s sales period and I have already been in contact with them. It seems that something could also happen within Italy, as there seems to be some interest, while I’ve already received an official offer from Turkey for him.”

Diego – At 25 years of age, the Brazilian playmaker is in the prime of his career, but his first season with Juve after transferring from Werder Bremen was inconsistent. Del Neri is rumoured to be offloading the player for €25m or £20million to finance his move for Milos Krasic. A return to Germany with Bayern Munich or Hamburg looks to be on the cards, but the Brazilian could be an interesting prospect for Liverpool if they lose any of their top players.

Felipe Melo – The Brazilian defensive midfielder has had a disastrous season at both domestic and international level. Melo cost Juve a hefty sum from Fiorentina at the start of the season but his disciplinary record and his outspoken comments against his own fans, made him an unpopular player in his first season for the Old Lady. His stamp in the World Cup quarter final against Holland was also idiotic and made him a hate figure in his own country. Still, he is a great defensive midfielder, only if someone could calm him down.

Tiago Mendes – One of Portugal’s better players during the World Cup, Tiago has spent time in four major European leagues with Chelsea, Lyon, Juventus and Atletico Madrid. He was on loan at Atletico last season after falling out of favour at Juve, and is expected to secure a permanent deal in Spain. An agreement has yet to be finalised though and there is now uncertainty over the move.

Sebastian Giovinco – A small (5ft 5) young (23), tricky player with excellent dribbling ability, the midfielder excelled during a year long loan spell with Empoli a few seasons ago. In 2008, he was selected to play in the Olympic games, scoring 3 goals as Italy were knocked out in the quarter finals by Belgium. He has only appeared sparingly this season though after his place was taken by Diego in the side and has appeared only 19 times in all competitions. His agent has talked about moves to Lazio or Roma in recent days and it looks likely he will move on from Turin this summer.

Fabio Grosso – An experienced international and competent left back, Grosso was only purchased from Lyon at the start of the season, but Marcotta and Del Neri seemingly want to cash in on the player, and it has been rumoured he will move with Tiago to Atletico Madrid. At 32, Grosso is certainly not the quickest player any more, but he could prove to be a useful reserve full back for many top European clubs.

Jonathan Zebina – The French right back has been at Juve since 2004 when he was purchased by Fabio Capello from his former club Roma. He started out as first choice for the Old Lady, but his appearances have begun to dry up. At 31, he is an experienced full back who likes to get forward, but he also knows how to defend.

Mauro Camoranesi – An integral part of Italy’s World Cup winning team in 2006, the Argentinean born right midfield player is now 33, and should be considered as a last resort if a move for younger, more vibrant winger doesn’t come off. As he showed in the tournament in South Africa, he still can make a great impact on a team and helped recover a 1-0 deficit to Paraguay in the first group match. He can still cross a ball but his legs are no doubt about to go.

Trez would be ok short term.

Diego and Giovinco would be good for creativity.

Melo would be ok if mascherano were to leave.

None of the others though, they are either too old or not good enough.

  • anteater says:

We should try to get Diego, but only if the unthinkable happens and Gerrard leaves for pastures new. The Brazilian could rotate with Aquilani behind our striker(s). Or should we try Lucas just there.

  • Phil says:

I think Grosso could be a good buy and Trez would be perfect for Torres. He is still a top quality player….a definate bargain.

  • mark says:

Would any of these players interest us? Yes. All of them. (Do I sound desperate?)

  • steve mcauley says:

What Part of WE HAVE NO MONEY does this writer not understand. What a load of crap.

“We should try and get Diego”

    WTF are you on about?

Ah look, a flying pig, piloted by Raoul Moat…

  • Sam says:

Mark- did you actually read what the writer wrote? He said that Diego could a prospect in the event that some of our existing players move on and get us some money in, have a think before you type a smart-ar*ed comment.

  • LeroyB says:

Why don’t we just merge and we can rotate players?! What an idea – no transfer fees butwe get some quality in the squad!

  • Dave says:

    No thanks!!

  • Karim says:

    i know
sell torres, gerrard and masch and then bring in diego, tres, melo and giovinco
we would still have about £60million left to bring in podolski, van der vaart and SWP

  • Kevin says:

yup sell torres for 100pounds gerrard for 60 and masch for 30 = 160m

get Trez, Klose, vdv benzema as the rest of money for SG, DIEGO giovinco, get tardelli from A. Miniero in Brazil yea get podolski from cologne and dos santos from spurs. Who don’t want to stay at Liverpool let them go, we won’t die …We never walk alone

  • m kop says:

Melo definitivly as Mascherano seems to want out.
Giovinco, maybe, if not to expensive and he needs to be given a chance.

Others mentioned are not interesting, most of them are too old, and if Juve is looking to get younger players in way would Liverpool be bringing old players who haven’t even played in England before?

  • magnumopus says:

What part of the “we need to buy English to meet the new rules” don’t you guys get?
