What Liverpool need to do to complete summer transfer spending

Liverpool could be about to spend another £165m before Premier League transfers are suspended on Deadline Day on 1 September.

Arne Slot has already made eight signings for his first team while Armin Pecsi and Giovanni Leoni will spend a mixed amount of their time between the first team and U23s.

Florian Wirtz and Hugo Ekitike have already showcased their attacking starpower but Liverpool still want to add Alexander Isak to the squad while there is an argument to be made that another attacker is needed in addition to Isak.

That said, signing Marc Guehi to replace Jarell Quansah is more important.

Liverpool could spend another £165m before the summer window comes to a close

Liverpool have spent just shy of £300m but could take that figure within touching distance of half a billion pounds by signing Alexander Isak and Marc Guehi.

A deal to sign Isak would cost in the region of £130m and would singal the second time Liverpool have smashed the Premier League record bid after paying £116m for Florian Wirtz.

Meanwhile, Guehi is likely to cost around £35m. Crystal Palace turned down £70m for him last summer and are now set to lose him for around half the rejected bid as the Englishman is heading into his final year under contract with the Eagles.

Even if Liverpool sign Isak, their attacking depth may still be lacking

Assuming Liverpool and Newcastle United can reach an agreement and shake hands on a £130m transfer for Alexander Isak, Arne Slot will still have less attacking depth than last season.

The tragic passing of Diogo Jota and the sales Liverpool have made this summer have left the attacking ranks limited in terms of options.

At present, Liverpool’s attackers are: Mohamed Salah, Cody Gakpo, Hugo Ekitike, Federico Chiesa.

I have intentionally not included Rio Ngumoha as he’s only 17 and Liverpool should not be placing too much pressure on him until it’s clear that he’s ready.

The next week and a half will be very interesting as Liverpool fans sit back and wait to see how the club concludes their summer business.
