Liverpool are still working on reaching an agreement to sign Marc Guehi and talks should reportedly “accelerate” for what could be the ninth signing the Reds have made this summer.
With the security and support of a Premier League title at their backs, Liverpool have acted aggressively and with authority in the transfer market this summer.
In attack, Arne Slot signed Hugo Ekitike, who already has a goal and an assist after making his league debut at Anfield on Friday last week. Liverpool are still working on signing Alexander Isak.
In midfield, the club made a marquee move to sign Florian Wirtz, shattering the Premier League record for the highest fee now set at £116m.
In defence, Liverpool have signed goalkeepers Giorgi Mamardashvili, Armin Pecsi and Freddie Woodman to safeguard the future in that role. Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez are the two new fullbacks while Giovanni Leoni was signed last week at centre-back.
Overall, Liverpool have spent just shy of £300m.
With Isak still being pursued, he and Guehi could be the ninth and tenth signings of this historic Liverpool transfer window.
BBC’s Sami Mokbel explains what Liverpool need to do to sign Marc Guehi before Deadline Day

On the 1st of September at 7pm GMT, the Premier League transfer window will slam shut and bring an end to all spending.
Liverpool have dominated this window and could still close it with a bang if they sign Isak and Guehi.
Guehi is a player Liverpool have been after all summer but, arguably, the sheer number of transfers going on may have distracted them from the English international.
Reports from the Mirror suggest Liverpool were in pole position to sign Guehi in July but by pivoting to Isak, they lost the momentum and must now reach an agreement with Crystal Palace to sign their captain.
According to BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel,
“Marc Guehi is a very similar situation to Eberechi Eze,” BBC Sport journalist Sami Mokbel reports.
“Liverpool and Crystal Palace have held discussions about a possible £35m deal for Guehi to go to Anfield before the transfer deadline.
“There is still no agreement, but those talks should accelerate in the next few days but the success of that deal hinges on whether the chairman, Steve Parish, sees Liverpool’s deal and their valuation of the player as enough to let their captain go.
“It may be that Parish decides that the deal isn’t enough, and the fee isn’t enough, and it may be more valuable for him to stay until the end of the season and the 12 months until his contract runs out than it would to actually recoup the money.
“There’s still a lot to get done in that deal, but there are legs in it, and if I were a betting man, then I’d put money on that deal to get done before the transfer window closes.”
