Wolverhampton Wanderers are accelerating their interest in Liverpool playmaker Harvey Elliott as they get set to test both player and club’s resolve.
Perhaps the saddest part of the 2024/25 season has been watching Elliott slowly stagnate on the side of the pitch. He was by no means undroppable under Jurgen Klopp but he has been forced to watch from the sidelines even more this season under Arne Slot.
This is not a dig at the Dutch coach, simply an observation. Slot likes to keep his league starters together for the most part with few changes to the side that typically starts in the Premier League.
This has led to the likes of Harvey Elliott, Federico Chiesa and Wataru Endo to spend most of their time on the bench. Endo, however, was fortunate to earn more of the manager’s trust towards the end of the season.
For Elliott, his league minutes were slashed heavily. Last season, the 22-year-old was fortunate to play 1,335 minutes in the Premier League and was a trusted impact player.
So far, Slot has been unable to find the value the diminutive playmaker offers off the bench with Elliott trusted to play just 258 minutes with 69 of those coming against Chelsea on Sunday.
Wolves “likely to make enquiry” over Harvey Elliott situation this summer transfer window
According to a new report from GiveMeSport, “Wolves are on course to up the ante in their pursuit of Harvey Elliott after the Liverpool star has been identified as a potential summer acquisition as head coach Vitor Pereira makes preparations for his first full campaign in the Molineux dugout.”
As a result of playing over 1,100 fewer minutes this season, Elliott’s goal contributions dropped from 18 to six this season. Yet, Wolves can see the value he provides.
Wolves view Elliott as a potential replacement for Matheus Cunha, who may join Manchester United in the summer.
Liverpool are going to demand as much as £50million for his services but Wolves look prepared to match their demands as “Wolves would look to make Elliott the centrepiece of their plans if they can reach an agreement” with Liverpool.
Not only is there interest from Wolves, but Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Brighton are all interested. There is unnamed interest from overseas clubs but it does seem likeliest that Elliott will want to stay in the Premier League.
