A significant update has now emerged regarding the future of a huge figure at Liverpool, with the individual in question described as a “genius”.

The Reds have enjoyed a great decade under both Jurgen Klopp and Arne Slot, with Premier League and Champions League glory coming the club’s way, among other trophies.

While the managers and the players deserve enormous praise for their efforts, the brilliance of Michael Edwards behind the scenes has also been priceless.

According to The Boot Room, Liverpool’s former sporting director and current CEO of Football is now in “discussions” with FSG about a new long-term deal at Anfield, with journalist Graeme Bailey adding further comments in the report.

“I am told that FSG are very happy with the status quo – they love Edwards, and believe his decisions over Hughes and in turn Slot, have been invaluable to the club’s success. The fact that FSG trusts Edwards, Hughes, and Slot was key in them approving a huge summer spend, which included breaking the British record twice.

“Sources tell me that unless FSG were convinced they would not have committed to the spend, they believe they have the best off-field team in the world, and they want to keep it in place.”

Edwards one of Liverpool’s greatest assets

This is fantastic news for Liverpool, considering the regard in which Edwards is held at the club, masterminding so many signings in the past, from Sadio Mane to Mohamed Salah.

The Englishman is known as one of the very best in the business in his role, with former Reds CEO Peter Moore waxing lyrical over him last year:

“It has evolved immensely, and a little bit of influence from America with Moneyball and what’s known as Sabermetrics, and American sports which are more akin to being analysed because there are more metrics, particularly in baseball. Michael will tell you that he is very focused on that, and I will always call him a genius.”

Keeping Edwards at Liverpool for as long as possible is vital, as is also the case with the likes of Slot and Richard Hughes, and a new deal for him would feel as significant as some Reds players signing extensions.
