Liverpool are keen on signing Newcastle United striker in a £150m deal this summer, according to an exciting new transfer claim.

The Reds have issues at centre forward currently, even though Luis Diaz, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez are all good players in their own right.

Diaz hasn’t always found it easy in a new role this season, having been moved from the left wing by Arne Slot, while Jota continues to struggle with fitness issues.

As for Nunez, the jury is still out on him nearly three years into his Liverpool career, having not made enough progress in that time.

The i Paper, the Reds are interested in signing Isak for £150 million this summer, in what would be a British transfer record.

Journalist Mark Douglas reports that recent links “appear to have some substance”, although Newcastle have “no intention” of selling the 25-year-old at the end of the season.

The best option to lead Liverpool’s attack?

Isak is enjoying a stunning season for Newcastle, scoring 17 goals in the Premier League, with only Mohamed Salah, Erling Haaland and Chris Wood ahead of him in the charts. Meanwhile, Eddie Howe has lauded his quality, saying:

“Alex is a world-class talent. The way he took his goals, he has that coolness and composure very few have. When you add into the mix his technical skills, I think he’s got it all. He has unique skills, and the challenge is to get him into the game as much as we can. Earlier in the season we weren’t doing that, but now the team are performing much better.”

Isak is the perfect option to come in and lead the line for Liverpool, still having so many years left in him, not to mention arguably being among Europe’s best attackers currently.

Sadly, it looks like it will take something special for the Reds to prise the Sweden international away from Newcastle this summer, who understandably see him as a major part of their future.

Should Isak not move to Liverpool, signing an alternative striker needs to be at the top of the agenda in the summer transfer window, with none of Diaz, Jota and Nunez representing the long-term solution.
