Former scout Mick Brown believes Liverpool winger Ben Doak could make a controversial move to Everton this summer.

The 19-year-old is out on loan on Middlesbrough, enjoying a productive spell before injury got in the way back in January.

Doak has registered 10 goal contributions (three goals and seven assists) in the Championship in 2024/25, showing that he can hold his own in a tough league.

It remains to be seen what the future holds for the Scot at Liverpool, however, and speaking to Football Insider, Brown didn’t rule out the idea of him moving to Everton, who he has been linked with:

“Doak is up there with the best of this group of young players at Liverpool. He’s making progress at Middlesbrough and growing his reputation at that level. But the question for Liverpool is: is he going to break into this team in the near future?

“When you consider they’re going to be Premier League champions, you look at the options they’ve got, and you think they’re probably going to sign some new players. I think it’s unlikely he gets into that side and I don’t think they believe Doak would fit in there.

“As things stand, is he going to be an improvement on what they’ve got? Probably not, so now I think they will sell and they’ll think they can make good money. I’d be surprised if he stays at Liverpool this summer. As much as it may not be ideal, I don’t think they’ll have any issues selling him to Everton if they meet their asking price. But they’re not the only side interested, so he will be one to watch.”

Should Liverpool sell Doak this summer?

As is the case with Jarell Quansah, who has been linked with a move to Inter Milan, Liverpool have a big decision to make with Doak this summer.

At 19, the Scotland international remains a raw footballer with so much potential, being hailed as a “smart player” by Jurgen Klopp during their time working together.

The key with Doak is whether Liverpool believe he can be a long-term starter, possibly even being Mohamed Salah’s eventual replacement on the right flank.

If Michael Edwards, Richard Hughes, Arne Slot and others feel that can be the case, retaining his services has to be of the utmost importance.

On the flip side, though, if Doak isn’t seen as an eventual key man at Anfield, this summer could be the right time to cash in on him before his price tag drops.
