From One Dutch Winger To Another

After links to young Feyenoord winger Georginio Wijnaldum, Liverpool have again been linked with Hamburg’s Dutch winger Eljero Elia. The 23 year old had been linked with a move to Liverpool a few months ago but rumours again are abound that Rafa Benitez will bid for the player in the summer. Elia has really come to the fore with his performances over the last 18 months and Rafa Benitez is desperately looking for a pacey winger to replace the outgoing Albert Riera. The young winger may cost as much as £9million and if Rafa has to continue with the current financial restrictions, then he will have to sell before he can make a move for the 23 year old. The youngster’s performances this season have impressed so much that he is hoping for a call up to Bert van Marwijk’s World Cup squad. Elia only moved to Hamburg last summer but the German club do have some financial problems of their own and will no doubt be willing to sell at the right price, especially if they miss out on European qualification this season.
