Young Keeper has “Massive Potential”

|

Swindon manager Danny Wilson has praised former goalkeeper Jamie Stephens and believes he will excel at his new club Liverpool. 16 year old Stephens had not played a single senior game for the Robins and only a relatively small number in the youth team but the Reds signed up the young keeper after a weeks trial and Wilson believes Stephens will go far in the professional game:

“I’m sure he will do very well and we wish him all the best. There were half-a-dozen clubs looking at him, but he made his mind up to join them and I felt it was the right choice for him as well. He has got massive potential for such a young boy and he will be competing at a higher age level than he currently is, but that is down to Liverpool now how far he progresses. I’m absolutely delighted for the boy because he is going to a top-quality football club that know how to look after their youth players. It is a marvellous opportunity for Jamie and he is a very level-headed boy. He knows exactly where his career is going and with that he has chosen to go to Liverpool. He has got great potential and that is what Liverpool have seen in him.”

Stephens will sign a professional contract with the Reds on his 17th birthday.
