Liverpool winger Albert Riera will complete a €4m (£3.4m) to Olympiakos on Thursday, according to reports in the Greek press. The initial fee of €4m will rise by €2m (£1.7m) if the Greek club win the Superleague next season. The fee which will eventually amount to £5m will be a loss on the £8m the Reds paid Espanyol for the player in September 2008, and although the Spanish international had a relatively successful first year at the club, his second was shrouded in controversy. After a training ground bust up, his outspoken comments about Rafa Benitez and the club being a “sinking ship” led to him being frozen out at Anfield and a move to Spartak Moscow was speculated. Yet he was included in Roy Hodgson’s pre-season squad to Switzerland and there was a possibility of a reintroduction into first team affairs, but now it looks like he will be leaving Liverpool.
