Roy: We are looking at FIVE or SIX Signings in January

|

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson is currently tracking five or six players as potential transfer targets in the January transfer window. The Daily Star reported him as saying:

“We are going to be very interested in improving our squad in January, I’m prepared to accept that a number of players we’re looking to sign do make five or six – but I don’t wish to specify positions other than one is obviously a front player.”

Hodgson believes the striker shortage has to be sorted when the window opens:

“In January we should be really looking to solve one or two situations. We are desperately short of players. Front players. Having three front players at the club, and that’s if you include Ryan Babel, is nowhere near good enough. If Fernando (Torres) isn’t playing one week, you have got to get someone in who has got the same level of quality.”

Lets hope one of them 5 or 6 is a manager!!!!!!!!!!!

    • pk says:

dude..give him a chance…better than you would ever be..wtf is wrong with u???

      what a disgrace to lfc

  • Hash says:

Quality Left Back (Drente £8M or the Portugese LB at Benfica £12M),

    2 Wingers (Arda Turan £8M & Ashley Young £12M)

    Quality Striker (Andy Carrol £8M)

    Reina.
    Johnson,Carrahger,Agger,Drente or Portugese dude
    turan,Gerrard,Lucas/Meireles,Ashley Young
    Torres, Carrol/Cole

Top 4 side title pushing side with £36-£40M spent.

What world do you live in? First off, we need a strong defensive LB and both Drenthe and Contreau are more like wing backs. As for Turan 8mil, Young 12mil and Carrol 8mil, you must be clueless about the transfer market.

As sir bob has stated – lets hope one of the 5 or 6 is a manager.
ROY, LEAVE WHILE YOU STILL HAVE SOME DIGNITY LEFT

  • Humph says:

Babel came to prominence as a striker not a winger, so why haven’t Rafa or Roy played him in this position? What’s Pacheco if he’s not a striker? He looks like a quality player, but needs some time on the pitch to get some experience
    There is also
Brouwer, who is now 22 so should be challenging for a squad place by now surely. He came through the Ajax Academy so he ought to be able to play a bit. I’ve seen him in the reserves and he looks to have a good touch and enough strength to cope
Amoo who though only 19 is big and powerful, I expect him to be on the verge of breaking through soon.
Eccleston again only 20 but though to have a bright future.

    • Joe says:

problem with a lot of these players is, they can’t handle the physicality of the premiership just yet..and when we were languishing in the bottom three, people would have been burning effigys of Hodgson if he dared to throw eccleston or amoo into the fray.

These kids need blooding in europe and cup games (see shelvey/spearing/kelly….)

although i will say i don’t get why Pacheco is off the radar, the kid is dynamite.

  • Hafiz says:

    Bring Luis Suarez to anfield!

  • Mike says:

Roy promosid Babel game time as a striker but never lived up to that promise. And where the hell did Pachecho go?

    • David says:

Obviously both are not good enough if they were they would be playing I assure you. I’m sure the liverpool coaching staff and management know who to play better than anyone posting on this forum

  • jeff duke says:

” and all five or six are defensive, over 30 years of age and we will pay way over the odds” said Roy.

  • Red Sky says:

Bring back Rafa and give him the money…look at Inter play….

  • red2death says:

Roy, don’t blame the squad. We were a couple key players away from a very good team.

    What changed? You came in.

The sign of a good manager is overachieving with a substandard squad. The sign of a bad manager is underachieving with the 2nd highest representation of any club at the world cup. Hodgson, my friend, you are the latter.

    Please leave.

  • John says:

Well said Red2death. Roy is way out of his league. The squad he has is good enough to finish 4/5th he is too used to being a mid table manager and being the under dog. He needs to resign or be sacked before he spends £30 million on 5 Paul Knonchesky’s

  • Eric says:

I agree pretty much with red2death. Roy is out of his depth. We had something like 14 players at the World Cup and a team full of quality in every position. It’s crazy to say that Roy inherited a poor squad from Rafa cause that is simply a poor excuse for our poor start to the season. With this squad, we should be challenging for at least 4th. Also, if he’s looking to sign 6 players in January then we should be looking for his replacement now. 30 million on 6 players mean an average of 5 million on each player. 5 million players are players of Poulsen and Konchesky’s quality. With this in mind, you now know that Roy will be wasting that 30 million on average mid-table players. A quality winger and striker would already cost 20 million in total. Sack Roy and let Rafa or Hiddink come in and spend the money.

  • Gzee says:

Agree with guy roy should go now..actually we can
Play 4-4-2 formation if roy give jova chance to
Play he is good..why liverpool board still give him
A chance to be lfc manager?…

  • vjm says:

Everybody can see Roy is not good enough. I dont understand why the hell every manager in EPL is supporting him? SAF is supporting him cause he dont want LFC to come fight again and he can break leage title record. whats wrong with the board, longer you take to sack roy heavily u pay in league position.
