Top 3 Out of Favour Strikers for the Reds to look at

|

One of the most annoying things to see as a Reds fans over the last two months has been the form of Bayern Munich striker Mario Gomez. Liverpool were heavily linked with a loan move for the out of favour German international back in the last days of August, but the move did not materialise as Bayern opted to keep the 25 year old on their books. Liverpool were left without a much needed striker going into the opening months of the season while Gomez initially continued to sit on the bench for Bayern. It seemed like a lose-lose situation for both the player and the Reds as the player continued to be sidelined for his club while Liverpool struggled to give Fernando Torres any support up front.

Then on October 16th, everything changed for Gomez. After the international break in which he scored in a 3-0 away win against Kazakhstan after coming on as a substitute, he started only his second match of the season for Bayern. He scored a hat-trick in a 3-0 win over Hannover at home and he has not looked back since. With injuries to Ivica Olic and Miroslav Klose, and the lack of goals from Thomas Muller, Gomez has capitalised on his chance scoring an impressive 14 goals in 11 matches. Needless to say Bayern won’t be even considering letting the player go in January now. So what other out of favour players could the Reds seek out, who could potentially be prolific goalscorers?

Although the three players below are perhaps difficult targets, all three are either mainly used as substitutes or have issues with their club’s management:

Forget the players mentioned here. Liverpool should do a deal with Newcastle for Andy Carroll. He would be an ideal foil for Torres and Carroll has shown he can handle the Premier League.

    • Joe says:

Carroll wouldn’t leave Newcastle, not anytime soon anyway…they’ve helped him a hell of a lot so far in his career, and although he might be an idiot, he’s not a p***k.

    • Carlos says:

deffo. can playon his own up front too…

  • Dave says:

Yea Kenny let’s forget world class players and look at Andy Carroll . Mug

  • steve mcauley says:

benzema or bojan would be terrific signings but i don’t see either player wanting to sign for roy hodgson! now, if frank rijkaard were boss, that would be a different story!
as for kenny’s suggestion, yeah, why not? carroll is excellent in the air and i think he could be a great partner for torres

  • daboy says:

Would like to get Krkic but what about the possibility of Cassano on the cheap, he and Poulsen should hit it off.

  • Eric says:

It’d be wonderful if we could get Benzema but the question is whether we can afford him or not. Last week he ripped England apart and no doubt this guy has quality and I’m sure he’d be a quality addition to the squad but he may prove to be too expensive.

  • Joe says:

Benzema and Lopez are two players of quality, either would be a great addition.

  • Karim says:

What about Adebayor? Proven PL goalscorer, is physical and would complement Torres immensely.

I think a move for Stephen Ireland would be beneficial too! he would provide great energy in the middle of the park and would take off some pressure away from Gerrard whilst also being decent enough defensively.

Adam Johnson should be a decent signing, i cant see Roy having a go at him for off field behavious esp if he doing well on the pitch.

Ashley Young should also be another signing,

so Roy, 4 decent players all up for grabs!

    Jan Transfer window
Either Roy will leave and a new man will come in and demand a bigger budget

Roy will stay, bring in players he needs to

    No players will join us.

  • Woy’s style – or lack of – of football won’t attract the players mentioned. I think players will also be aware Woy isn’t going to be in charge for the whole season, so why join a club when possibly a new manager comes in with their own ideas.

Predict a quiet January ……. saddly.

  • omg says:

Ashley young, adam johnson, lopez and benzema
