Roy: “He knows he is better than that”

|

Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson was disappointed with Joe Cole’s performance in the 0-0 draw against FC Utrecht in the Europa League last night:

“He knows he is better than that and he knows he can do better than that He sets himself high standards, he plays on small margins, he’s an honest lad and I’m sure he came off the field thinking, ‘That wasn’t the performance I wanted to give. I’m better than that and I can do better than that.’ It was just unfortunate he was unable to show that tonight but it certainly wasn’t for a want of trying or through a lack of effort or desire. It didn’t go his way and that can happen with front players.”

The Reds qualified top of the group despite failing to win against the Dutch side at Anfield.

Joe Cole is top quality on his day but he hasn’t shown what he’s capable of doing since joining Liverpool. He needs to get himself in form and force himself back into the first team. Hodgson needs to realise that Joe Cole is no longer the kind of player who can sprint down the flanks and get in balls. Roy must play him behind the main striker in a free role where he can give support to Torres.

Roy Hodgson you say Joe Cole sets himself high standards, what about you? What standards do you set for Liverpool Football Club when you tell misinform its supporters? As you said before of yourself you been in management a long time so for lastnights shambles theres no excuse. Parents turned out at anfield with their kids on a freezin cold night because you misinformed us. Its simple you are not up to the standard that we deserve, blow your nose and do one. That performance was awfull!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Another thing – where would you play him?

4-3-3 is the way to go if JC is to play and find form
