Is there a man in Britain more deserving of the title?

|

Sir Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish. It has a nice ring to it doesn’t it? The man who has won over thirty honours throughout his playing career and a further thirteen honours as a manager has enjoyed the sort of career in football that people could only dream of. But it is not just his football accolades that have lead to Liverpool fans calling for the King to become a Sir. Nobody will ever forget nor live down the role Dalglish played in the aftermath of Hillsborough and for that alone he deserves this, the highest of personal achievements.

The 15th of April 1989 was one of the darkest days British football has ever known. It was a day when 96 football fans went to watch a match in Sheffield but never returned home. Families were left devastated by what happened and to this day are left seeking answers about what transpired that day.  What Dalglish did in the aftermath of this tragedy helped to pick the city as a whole up from its knees so much so it was to the detriment of his health both physically and mentally. He made sure there was a Liverpool presence at every funeral and he even attended around four funerals a day. He made himself available to help the families during these traumatic times and put their needs ahead of his own. This is the hallmark of the man who went well beyond the call of duty to help the people who live in the city he holds so dear to his heart.

And now he’s at it again. His powers to enhance recoveries knows no bounds as this time instead of helping the people within the city he has turned his attentions back to on the field matters. Liverpool Football club was also on its knees with seemingly no glint of a revival in sight. Then the King returned and from being in a relegation battle the club is now looking to next season and a potential title challenge (as some would like to believe). His return has united the club, rejuvenated its fanatical support and has restored the values the football club holds so dear. This is why he is regarded as the biggest legend the club as known, this is why he has earned his title as the King and this is why he deserves a Knighthood.

Former Lord Mayor Steve Rotherham MP has rightly put the this notion in motion (apologies for the rhyme) as all the families affected by the Hillsborough disaster feel it is warranted. Mr Rotherham declared that people receive such honours for what they have achieved in sport or for their work and support to particular charities. Well Kenny Dalglish ticks both these boxes and it is about time he gets the recognition he deserves. Those who decide who gets such honours bestowed on them have let the club down before in failing to give Bob Paisley the Knighthood he so richly earned but never received. They cannot allow history to repeat itself and must shortly call arise to Sir Kenneth Mathieson Dalglish.

Kenny should have been given a knighthood a long long time ago, his achievements in the game as both a player and manager are exceptional, also his conduct has been an example to us all, great man.

You will be surprised that a Liverpool supporter would like to see Kenny Dalglish Knighted alongside the great Harry Gregg formerly of Manchester United.
Both of them demonstrated great passion, bravery and love for people in distress at times of great need.

But I must declare that I am a citizen of Northern Ireland.

Why on earth would anybody want to be ‘acknowledged’ with a title by the British establishment? The British establishment has always looked down its noses at the people of Liverpool more than any other city in England. We are a working class club and as far as I’m concerned we should in no way ingratiate ourselves to an establishment that has shown little or no regard for us. If Kenny were to receive it I’d prefer he sent it back. The last great Scouser to receive a so-called honour did the right thing and returned to sender. Namely the great John Lennon. How long have we waited for justice for the 96 while critical police files were sat on by the establishment? It’s not an honour, it’s a crumb from the ill-gotten gold tables paid for on the backs of the working class. The great are only great because we are on our knees. Arise Kenny for your already a giant amoung men. Have some class people.
