Over the years since the start of the Premier League, we have seen some fantastic leaders out there on the pitch. It was a tough task to pick ten of my favourites – but I have managed it! My list contains different sorts of captains with different sorts of personalities. Good captains come in all shapes and sizes and play in different positions. Although, it seems that most captains tend to be central defenders or central midfielders.
It’s a myth to suggest that a captain needs to be shouting at everyone to do the job. Some captains simply lead by example on and off the pitch. Captains though are usually big characters and well liked by their teammates. But successful teams tend to have characters all over the pitch. My list contains a mixture of captains that were very vocal and the ones that weren’t so vocal but led by example.
