Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has highlighted the four signings he would be happy with in the summer. Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, he said:
“If Liverpool really are going to challenge in the Premier League next season then we need to make three or four top signings this summer. Kenny Dalglish will know there’s a lot of work to be done. There’s a minimum of 10 players who need to be off-loaded this summer. There’s too much dead wood who aren’t good enough for the club. Moving them on is going to be crucial because it will boost Kenny’s kitty for signings. If we can get Jose Enrique, Gary Cahill, Ashley Young and Charlie Adam I’ll be happy. Left-back has been a problem position for us all season and Newcastle’s Enrique has impressed me. We also need another centre-half and Cahill at Bolton fits the bill. Everyone would love Young in their side and he would be a great buy. We all know Liverpool need some width and pace. Adam came close to joining us in January and it wouldn’t be a surprise if we went back in for him to strengthen the midfield.”
Aldo also praised the work of the youngsters coming into the side:
“I liked the fact Kenny had Andre Wisdom, a young centre-half with tremendous potential, warming up with the players before the game on Saturday. We also had Conor Coady on the bench. Our Academy lads have done brilliantly since they made the step up to the first team. They have ensured there’s positives to come out of the negative of having so many injuries.They have a huge part to play in Liverpool’s future but we still need to build the squad up with some quality additions this summer.”

There was a reason why Aldridge was sacked as Tranmere manager . . .
Adam is no better than Spearing or Lucas.
Enrique is ok but seems expensive.
Young is inconsistent and will be far too expensive.
Cahill again is inconsistent and is no better than Skrtel.
It’s no good signing players who are no better than the ones we have, Rafa has taught is that much.

I don’t see why we need to sign another AM/CM we have stevie,mereiles,lucas maybe aqua coming back,shelvy & spearing for cover,pacheco hopefully will break through next season..and if we are gonna play with 2 strikers,this limits the number of CM we can field.
I agree some firepower is needed especially up front. therefore the i will go with Aldo here with the suggestion of Young, Adam, Enrique but with regard to Cahill I am not sure is urgent. Cahill is a great central defender but I would think another winger would be more important and improve the team much more than Cahill would. Additionally I think we are much stronger at the back especially when Agger is fit.

Yep – all wrong – not according to reports Taiwo off to Milan, Mertasaker ripped appart by Manure last night, Wickham a little young imo – Mata the only one in agreement with.
Mertesacker plays for Werder Bremen not Schalke 04 so what do you mean he got ripped apart by Manutd last night? ‘Wickham a little young’ so that’s a justified reason for not signing one of the hottest prospects out there?
Apologies mate – getting mixed up with Metzelder, agreed after the WC Mertesacker had, we should go for him. I agree with Wickham to an extent i just felt we need someone proven at the level instead of potential. OK in hindsight age is not the justified reason for not signing him…
What I meant was we need players to come in an make instant improvement, we havent really got the time to wait for potentian to be fullfilled

I think Aldo goes and reports to ALL LFC games and as a former Club Manager himself, a true red, and current commentator on all LFC games is well qualified to pass accurate comment on the requirements of LFC.
I agree with some of the players banded about above – the four mentioned would be good additions but cheaper alternatives – Aldo hedging his bets, I would swap Enrique for Coentrao, Cahill would be a good signing but Rolando the beast from Portugal, Young – ok but there is better on the Continent and Adam – again much better abroad but if we keep Aquaman & get Adam (if we are talking Charlie Adam, why has no one mentioned Scotty Parker if WHU go down??) That would be acceptable.
I would be happy with the addition of the four stated plus 2 Top Drawer signings such as Sanchez, Mata, Turan, Aguero, Navas or Hazard – if FSG want to make a statement of intent we need to signing players of that ilk – although they would be pressed to join us without CL football. The draw of KD & LFC would have to be enough for a season or two.

James mccarthy would also be an exciting signing. he made his debut for Ireland and I was very impressed. he puts the ball down and knocks it on the floor. before he becomes a huge star bring him in. reminds me of Steven gerrard. his goal a few months ago.. he does three keep me ups outside the box and half volley the ball into the net like cantona. SIGN HIM!!!
Spot on about James McCarthy. Liverpool need to sign him as soon as possible and before Chelsea come sniffing around for him.
enrique looks to me like a done deal no matter what oul alan pardew has to say, as much as id like to see all these marquee signings coming in we have to be realistic, the youngsters coming trought are a breath of fresh air, i would add two more names to our already attacking looking team which we can get for relatvley cheap, abel taarabt and danny graham, both have been brilliant all season in what is a very competitive league,my other picks would be banega in midfield, and either scott dann or phil jones. no major signings but five young and talented signings that would add much needed dept as im sure we will be getting rid of at least the same amount as we bring in.

Forget this paying overs for players in the English premier league – yes they are proven but we all know a quality player regardless of where they are from. Do we follow up the Asian calls – only if we can land Honda. Other signings should include Mata , Sanchez a world class back & bring back Aqua & 2011/12 is Liverpool all the way!!
we’ll see enrique close up at the weekend,lets see how he handles our attack..
udinese have said they want 35mil for sanchez, if we can pay that for carroll why not pay that much again for sanchez, if i was FSG i would.
