The Finest Moments from the 2010/11 Season

|

This Premier League season has been one of the most exciting for years. Here are my defining moments of the 2010/11 Premier League campaign:

The Return of King Kenny:

Whatever happened in the first half of the season at Anfield is well and truly in the past. The return of Kenny Dalglish has given new life to Liverpool. The fans couldn’t be happier, the players are enjoying playing under the Anfield legend and Dalglish has rubbished all rhetoric that he wasn’t up to the challenge. His signings in January look to be inspirational and with further investment in the summer who knows where Liverpool could finish next season. Dalglish has been a breath of fresh air to the Premier League.

THAT Wayne Rooney Goal:

Without doubt the goal of the season but this goal will be remembered for years to come. The greatest goal to be scored at Old Trafford? Well who knows, but it was magnificent. Little more can be said about it – just watch!

The January Transfer Window

Some people will see what happened in January as magical, some will see it as lunacy. For the English transfer record to be broken twice in a day was unheard of and everybody had to take a gasp of air after the deadline had passed. However it wasn’t just the purchases of Andy Carroll and Fernando Torres that cost vast sums of money. Edin Dzeko joined Manchester City for a reported £25m, David Luiz joined Chelsea for a reported £25m and Luis Suarez became Liverpool’s second signing for a reported £20m. It was a transfer window that exceeded all expectations and there have been a mixed bag of results so far. Torres has been poor whilst Suarez and Luiz have been revelations. We may have to wait until next season to see the true value of these signings.

Arsenal’s master class against Chelsea

It was a game that every neutral sat back and admired Arsenal for everything they are good at. Arsenal fans who watch their side week in week out may not have been surprised by what their side did to Chelsea but for the neutral it was a master class. Chelsea may have been on a dreadful run of form but that doesn’t take away from what Arsenal did to them. It was an incisive attacking display that showed what Arsene Wenger had been saying all along. This Arsenal team, on their day could destroy arguably the best team in England. For all that, Arsenal deserve great credit for this victory with impressive performances all round. Cesc Fabregas and Theo Walcott were telepathic, while young Jack Wilshere came of age.

Goal line Technology… Please!

Chelsea’s 2-1 win against Tottenham will surely bring about a change in FIFA’s stance on goal line technology. Heurelho Gomes should have saved Frank Lampard’s effort but the ball did not cross the line – simple. There was no way the assistant referee could have been 100% sure and therefore the goal should have been awarded. After Frank Lampard’s strike was ruled out during the World Cup, this latest embarrassment for both the FA and FIFA must bring about goal line technology. If it doesn’t it seems nothing will.
