Wednesday Afternoon Can’t Come Soon Enough For Me

|

It’s been a very busy summer, so far. The past 6 weeks have been long and more than a bit painful, with all the speculation, ‘will-we-won’t-we’ transfer rumours and the pointless tidbits about our new stadium/renovation of Anfield. But in 2 days time, at 1pm BST all of that nonsense can be put to one side, at least for 90 minutes, as Liverpool kick-off in the club’s first pre-season friendly of the new season.

People may look at the game against Guangdong Sunray Cave as completely pointless and of little use other than the first tentative step in building up the first team’s fitness. However, as a Red who has just seen one of the most hurtful seasons in recent memory pass me by, I can’t wait for the team to get back to action again. No matter who the opposition is, it is a sign of a new season and, with it, comes new hope for the next 12 months and what the club can achieve during that time.

We’ve only made 2 signings so far; much, much less than we’d have expected by this time but it is still an opportunity to see Jordan Henderson and Charlie Adam and get an early idea of how the side might look with those two in it. One thing that’ll interest me especially is seeing Liverpool step out with so much British blood; it’s been a long time since that last happened. With these two and the likes of Johnson, Carragher, Carroll and Flanagan, not to mention the – hopefully – soon to be returning Gerrard, we have a very ‘local’ spine to the team. There will no doubt be one or two more additions from these shores too, before the 2011-12 gets under way so it will be a very interesting looking Liverpool side indeed in just over a months time.

Regardless of how Wednesday’s game is perceived by fans across the world though, you can’t help but admit that it’ll just be good to see the boys back in action again. They will be tired and there’ll be some excess weight on one or two bodies to work off too. But after a summer were I’ve struggled to have any interest in the Women’s World Cup, Wimbledon or even the Copa America I, for one, can not wait. Roll on Wednesday afternoon…

We need to start dumping Salary. If this is it for the summer, it will be ok. We have players to suffice until January’s Window, however we do need a LW player who can cross and if Downing (who I prefer not to get) is too expensive then getting N’Zogbia is the best option! other than that, we have enough players who are healthy to make a huge push for the League Title (which should be our only goal!)…Dumping extra’s such as Konchesky (use Insua and I’ll feel much better), Poulsen (Spearings better as an option), Ngog (I’d rather use Pacheco as the 4th option), Cole (Maxi fits the bill better) and may be even Aquilani (if we can get a team to pay 12 million then sell!!!) and loan out Wilson, Ayala, Flanagan and Spearing (we still have a clogged midfield-Raul,Lucas,Jordan,Stevie,Adam and potentially Aqua) till xmas. This will bring in funds spent and we can then add a few pieces in January if we need!. Use the youngsters (Wisdom, Kelly(Agger is inj prone) and Robbo (Aurelio is so injury prone) as cover!!)

Good article, I found myself watching the Midlands Masters the other day for 2 hours even though I had plenty of better things to do that day I was that desperate for a football fix.

seriously?? are u having a laugh? So u want us to wait till January wen prices are crazy b4 we get our targets? then just hope that they blend quickly (like Suarez) right?
so u dont think we need a proven striker to give competition to Suarry & Carry. U think Pachecho can replace Ngog? u dont think we need a (natural) right winger? what about a center back to cover for ‘injured’ Agger,Sluggish Kyrgiakos n old Carragher?
I believe we have a lot of promising youngsters who should get some game time this season, but the only ones who should be in the first team are Shelvey(who might be leavin or goin on loan) n Kelly (though I think Sterling looks very promising).
what our squad needs isn’t just strengthening. Its …’rebuilding’. amidst a couple of signings, the major areas we need to cover are: LB, CB, LW, RW, ‘maybe’ CF (cos some will say we’ve got Kuyt for that role).
We really need to start well if we want to break back into the top 4 cos the league is now a lot harder. we on longer have ‘d top 4.’ its now ‘d top 6.’ We cant just expect KK to wave his magic wand and expect results to come. We need to get good players.
