Does his nonchalant reply suggest he’s staying put?

When asked on the pre-season tour of China about whether he would be staying at Liverpool next season, midfielder Raul Meireles responded with two words:

“Of Course.”

The Portuguese star had been linked with moves to Italy with reports suggesting he would be given permission to talk with Inter Milan and Juventus if a £12million fee could be agreed. The arrival of Charlie Adam at the club from Blackpool, as well as the return of Alberto Aquilani to Anfield, has increased speculation about the player’s future.

The nonchalant way that Raul dismissed such reports seems to suggest that he is definitely staying at Liverpool, or at least any move away from Merseyside is a long way off.

Although I know there are many Liverpool fans out there that feel the Reds should go into the season with both Alberto Aquilani and Raul Meireles still at the club, to give the team that much needed squad depth we have been lacking in recent campaigns, I firmly believe that at least one of these two will be leaving before the end of the transfer window.

It is hard to see new signing Charlie Adam and Jordan Henderson not being above Aqua and Raul in the pecking order next season, purely because they are Kenny’s buys, and from my point of view, if you buy central midfielders when there wasn’t any real need to, it suggests that Kenny doesn’t really favour those already in the squad.

Raul is a decent player who took his time to adjust to the EPL. It would be crazy to let him go, i would suggest Aqua is favorite for the off. Aqua is also a decent player maybe the two mentioned are a bit light weight & injury prone. It`ll be very interesting come 4 weeks.

    Balanced article.
    @ Davie
Aqua made a much bigger impact in less games than Meireles, and I hope it’s him who stays. Meireles is also more lightweight and worse in the tackle. He is a very decent player tho and I won’t be upset if he stays.

We need a stronger physical presence in the midfield and a higher rate of efficiency. It would be ridicolous if this guy stays and KK would not make an approach for M. Sissoko.

Nicola another midfielder, please don’t make me laugh. I think we now have adequate depth in midfield and should look to strengthen other areas of the team, YNWA!

Nicola’s right… we definitely need another Masch to win the ball back for the attacking players we now have…

I dont know how this is gonna play out yet but am very sure 1of them will be moving.
I like Aquilani. I think he’s d midfielder with the most creativity n flair, but I also gotta say he has no respect for the club.
Whichever 1 of them leaves, I’ll wouldn’t be sad.
