LFC target Toby AlderweireldIT has been reported that £8 million rated Ajax defender, Toby Alderweireld has highlighted Liverpool FC as his preferred destination if he were to leave the Holland.

There has been a swarm of interest in the Belgian international, with Everton keeping a eye on him, and Manchester United looking at Alderweireld as a potential replacement for Nemanja Vidic.

However, in an interview with Het Nieuws Laatste, Alderweireld seemed to reveal Liverpool as his primary aim, admitting that the Anfield outfit is most suited to him.

“I do not want to play in an English club to mid-table. Unlike Newcastle, Liverpool meets my criteria,” was the defender’s take on the situation.

The Daily Express has also reported a potential transfer fee for the 24 year-old, with Ajax set to demand a figure in the region of £8 million. This fee may sound reasonable to FSG and boss Brendan Rodgers, who will be scant on defensive talent with Jamie Carragher’s imminent retirement at the end of the season, as well as doubts over Martin Skrtel and Sebastian Coates’ long-term futures at the club.

With this in mind, the Reds will need to bolster their defence soon, and additionally, Alderweireld is able to cover two defensive positions, as he is proficient in both centre-back and right-back positions.

Alderweireld has played 36 times for Ajax this season, and has topped his impressive performances with 3 goals to boot.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.
