Reina era to end as LFC up ante for Belgian shot stopper?

Liverpool keeperPEPE Reina’s 8 year stay in between the Liverpool sticks may be coming to a close as his future at the club was thrown into doubt with Liverpool having upped the ante in their chase for Simon Mignolet, confirmed The Daily Post.

The Reds still have some details to thrash out with Sunderland, though, with the main dispute being the transfer fee Sunderland are after.

Liverpool are keen to keep the figure below Sunderland’s asking price of £10 million, but are going close with a £9 million offer which they are hoping the Black Cats accept.

Mignolet, signed in 2010 from Sint Truiden, has played over 100 times for his club and is a firm fan favourite. However, Sunderland seem to be willing to let Mignolet go, in order to increase spending funds for Paulo Di Canio to strengthen a squad that struggled to stay up last season.

La Liga champions Barcelona are believed to be keen to bring Reina back to Spain, though Liverpool have yet to receive any official offers for the 30 year old.

If Mignolet completes the move to Anfield however it could all but confirm the departure of Pepe Reina, who is known to be keen on ending his career in his native Spain.

Hey all, I'm 17 years old and I've only been writing sports articles for a couple of months. I'm an aspiring journalist living in the Anfield area (about 5 minutes from the stadium, seriously, I can hear the roar of the Kop from my house!) I've been a lifelong supporter along with my entire family (except one Uncle, but we don't need to talk about that) and I've followed the Reds through the good and the bad times - and there's been a lot of both. I recently got accepted into college and shall be taking a Level 3 Extended Diploma in Journalism, with this hopefully being the first step towards a full time career in journalism.

Another LFC better player sees no hope in BR’s LFC. When will LFC fans realize this ??? When will FSG realize this ???

  • redgeorge says:

Well it “could” mean the end of Reina, then again it “could” not! not much of an article really is it?
    it “could£ rain tomorrow!!

Liverpool should get Mignolet fast,Pepe is ageing, the squard is taking shape especially with the speculated arrivals,we will give the top 4 a shot this season

  • Avi says:

Sad if pepe leaves but he is getting old and he’s form has been poor of late…

  • Lfc 4ever says:

Stupid to let reina go cheap..he’s still one of the top gk in the world..didn’t understand a player good enough for barca not good enough for BR..sad

  • zacks says:

‘May be’, ‘Seem to be’, ‘Believed to be’, I could write better myself. As a Sunderland fan gotta say Mig is a great shot stopper but needs to command box more. As his head has been turned, we just want him gone now and to move on – bit surprised he’s chosen Lpool with respect as his agent spouting need to be at a top club and realistically you will probs be top 8 but not at the top, and no Europe – and Reina a much better keeper who hasn’t gone yet. Maybe his agent was talking bollocks !

    Unfortunately this is true.
Mignolet is on his way to Liverpool and that must mean Reina is going

It’s a sad day for Liverpool. Reina is a better keeper , and this is a huge step backwards

  • Patrickluv says:

O my God dis is really strange. Suarez is on his way out, are we going to ever see a replacement for him? So sad. I’ll welcme Mignolet for Reina or Begovic of stoke for Reina. Reina has had his times at Anfield come to an end. I dnt consider him as a top gk anymore

  • Tommy says:

Rodgers is a disgrace if he trades Reina for Mignolet. Another mistake by our trainee manager

  • Raam says:

BR should retain Reina and make Mignolet and Bred as his deputies. For once i think BR will regret if he lets Reina leave.
