LIVERPOOL FC have a battle on their hands in their bid to sign Mamadou Sakho after Monaco expressed an interest in signing the defender, reports The Express.
Reports in France had suggested Liverpool had bid £8million for the young French defender and that they were the only club interested.
However, Monaco, with their massive financial backing have now made their interest known.
It was initially thought that Monaco were only in the market for a goalkeeper but manager Claudio Ranieri was quoted as saying:
“We must find out what we need. We need to know what we need before we make any adjustments.
“I understand the expectations of journalists and the public, but we must wait to see what we need. There is no question of giving names right now.”
Although no names were mentioned Monaco are believed to looking at Sakho, the young French defender who knows he has to leave boyhood club PSG due him losing his place in the French national squad due to a lack of game time.
That has led the Reds to turn to Sakho as manager Brendan Rodgers looks to strengthen the centre of the defence.
With concerns for both Sebastian Coates and Martin Skrtel who still could leave during the summer, Rodgers will hope to complete this deal sooner rather than later.
