Liverpool retained their WSL title, winning for a second year in succession

In a day that saw a Liverpool side retain a league title, Reds the world over once again watched on in pride as Liverpool Women’s team held on to their Super League title after going into the final game needing slip ups from the two sides above them.

While Liverpool comfortably won their final game, Chelsea and Birmingham conspired to drop points, leaving the Reds to win the title for a 2nd year running, this time on goal-difference.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.com after the game, Liverpool Ladies manager Matt Beard said “I’m absolutely delighted. I thought we would win the game and the results went for us, and I’m just so immensely proud of this group of players.

“We had such a tough game in the Champions League on Wednesday night and I’m so proud of the players, and all of my staff as well because they deserve a lot of credit. This is the toughest thing to do, to defend your title – now we have done it I am just so proud.”

The Reds will again go into Champions League action in the week and looks to make further history as they attempt to progress to the last 16, and going into the game knowing they are, once again, Champions of England, will no doubt give them a much deserved boost to see the tie through.
