And, thus, the poor recent run comes to an end, just in time for the FA Cup semi-final on Sunday as Newcastle were – eventually – put to the sword.
Liverpool made hard work of a very average Newcastle side, much like they did against Blackburn last week but the Reds’ superior quality shone through in the end in the form of goals from Sterling and a real clinical effort from Joe Allen.
The biggest concern for Liverpool though, is that total lack of cutting edge. Sterling alone could’ve had a hat-trick at least, whilst one or two others were guilty of poor decision-making in and around the Newcastle area.
Aston Villa are likely to be a much different opposition to that which Liverpool faced earlier in the season and a much more decisive display in front of goal will be required to reach the FA Cup final. In the meantime, to the ratings..

I compliment you on noticing the fine performance of Lucas, a player I dont often appreciate.
Allen played quite well but we can do better.Ibe was poor tonight.
Both Brazilians gave quality performances .Perhaps we should sign a couple more.It does not seem to harm Chelsea.
