Having kept some distance from the usual transfer rumour guff in the past week, we’re back with one bizarre and one quite interesting piece of transfer gossip from the last 24 hours.

Firstly, the are rumours today that Chelsea are believed to be interested in securing the signature of Liverpool’s Rickie Lambert to replace the outgoing Didier Drogba at the end of the season. Bizarre, to say the least. But in reality, it’s a move that would make sense for Mourinho.

Drogba is a strong, not-blessed-with-pace centre forward, that does a very particular job in the right system. Rickie Lambert, whilst not in the same class as Drogba was in his day, has all of the same attributes and, if used correctly (which many will argue Rodgers has failed to do) could be a very useful acquisition. How likely Lambert is to want to leave his boyhood club for a bitter rival though, remains to be seen

The second rumour of the day probably has a bit more substance to it. And that is that Inter Milan have offered star midfielder, Mateo Kovacic to the Reds, as they look to offload some players to bring in a bit of much-needed cash, who has reportedly been unsettled by the ‘imminent’ (according to some sources) arrival of Yaya Toure.

The 20 year old is one of the star youngsters in European football and, at just 20 years of age, would still command a fee of at least £15-20 million. However, the young midfielder looks well worth the money and is the process of having his most productive season to date at Inter.

It’s unlikely there will be no competition for the Croatian star’s signature but given the success Liverpool had the last time they stole a hopeful young midfield star from Inter, it’s likely that the club will want to ensure they don’t miss out on another one.
