Milner cuts a dejected figure after yet another uninspiring performance from the backup captain

While the result in mid-week was disappointing, considering Liverpool were up against ten men for most of the game, the 1-1 draw at home to Southampton today came with many positives.

It was definitely another missed opportunity, particularly with Liverpool having twice as many chances but, ultimately, Southampton showed that familiar resilience they’ve demonstrated under Ronald Koeman to claw back a draw.

There were a number of good performances for the Reds throughout the team, with Skrtel, Sakho and Moreno all solid at the back, whilst Lucas Leiva again bossed Liverpool’s midfield.

Further forward and there were again disappointing performances from James Milner, Philippe Coutinho and Divock Origi but the introduction of Christian Benteke at half-time and Roberto Firmino mid-way through the second saw Liverpool really turn the screw.

Alas, it wasn’t to be. It will come though and if key players regain full fitness, whilst others start to adapt to what Jurgen expects of them, these 0-0’s and 1-1’s will soon turn into wins.

The result was inspiring in a very subtle way, considering Henderson, Sturridge , Ings were not even in the team. We have to give time to our Rockstar and his team. We are still learning how to press, Milner’s foul which lead to Southampton equalizer is prime example that we are still a long way to perfect Gegenpressing. Southampton has proven what they can do with set pieces and they did exactly that when they got the opportunity. Our defense has become solid now, no need to be stupid in the midfield with four to six minutes left. With Gegenpressing it is very important we get a goal in the first ten or fifteen minutes, lets not forget the referees were very kind yesterday there were some fouls which were let go yesterday. However the good news is both Benteke and Firminho are looking good, Let’s pray that Sturridge comes back as soon as possible atleast against Chelsea, cant wait to crush the west Londoners.
