After playing so many games in such a short space of time recently, the temptation tonight would be to make wholesale changes, particularly with another big away game coming up for the Reds at the weekend; another eminently winnable game that Klopp will be hoping for all three points from.
Southampton are no pushovers though, regardless of recent results and Liverpool will have to be at their best.
It’s also highly unlikely that Southampton will send out a hugely weakened side, particularly given that they have a fairly straightforward home game at the weekend and the fact that this is now the quarter-finals of a very winnable cup competition.
And if last night’s results are anything to go by neither manager will be looking to give himself anything but a winning chance, particularly with both Everton and Man City likely opponents in the semi-finals.
So taking a strong early lead would be preferable, so that one or two key players can be given a break in the second half and maybe allow Jordan Henderson and Daniel Sturridge a chance to build up some fitness.
With that in mind, take a look at the team we’ve gone for.
