What a turnaround from the weekend. Liverpool were utterly dominant after a first 10 minutes that saw the two sides getting a feel for one another.
Once the likes of Adam Lallana and Roberto Firmino started to get their foot on the ball regularly though, Man City had little chance. The pair were excellent throughout, and had an able supporting cast.
Jurgen made five changes to the side that played in the cup final and it really told, with Liverpool sweeping forward against a crumbling wall of tired City players.
After a few waves of relentless action, the away side eventually crumbled to a wonderful effort from Lallana. The goal seemed to galvanise the England midfielder who went on to dominate the game.
The win at the Etihad earlier in the season looked like a watershed moment in Klopp’s early reign but was a bit of a false dawn. Can this win, with just a few months of the season remaining, and a handful of players returning, signal the start of Liverpool’s season for real?
We’ll get a better idea of that on Sunday. For now, check out our player ratings through the link.
