Liverpool have been linked with a move for former goalkeeper Pepe Reina. The Corriere Dello Sport is reporting that Jurgen Klopp would like the Spaniard back at Anfield to increase the amount of experience in the dressing room.

Any move for Reina would surely be the end for Simon Mignolet who replaced Reina as number one keeper in 2013. The Spanish international initially left for Napoli on loan with the Belgian keeper arriving to become the club’s first choice when he was bought from Sunderland for £8.5million.

Reina then departed permanently to Bayern Munich in 2014 but after a season being the understudy to Manuel Neuer he moved swiftl back to Italy on a permanent basis to Napoli at the start of last season. His father Miguel has since declared that the player would like to see out his career at the club telling Radio Kiss (translated by Football-Italia.net):

“He is very happy at Napoli. At the moment he is in Madrid to film an advertisement. By reinforcing the squad with the right new players, Napoli can have their say in Serie A and the Champions League. “He intends to see out his career at Napoli. Obviously, Napoli have to agree with that too.”

It looks unlikely that the player will return to Anfield after the Reds bought Loris Karius from Mainz but stranger things have happened.
