Liverpool and Arsenal have been tracking Lyon’s young midfielder Houssem Aouar, according to Footmercato.net. The French website believes both the Reds and the Gunners have made “serious calls” about signing the 17 year old in recent months.
The central midfielder can only sign a professional contract once he turns 18, and with his birthday at the end of the month, Lyon are scrambling to sign up Aouar to a new deal before other clubs come in for him.
Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has told reporters that he is optimistic about Aouar signing up to stay at Lyon but the player and his agent are free to talk to other clubs. The youngster played 5 times in the UEFA Youth League for Lyon’s Under 19s last season, providing one assist. He has two good feet, and is described as a playmaker who is able to dicate play, with good vision and a competent finisher.
