Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius has said he is hoping to establish himself as number one by being picked to play against Hull City this weekend.

Speaking to the German newspaper Die Zeit, the 23 year old says he is hopeful he will be picked ahead of Simon Mignolet for the league match after playing his first 90 minutes of the season against Derby County in the EFL Cup on Tuesday night:

“We will see who is in goal at the weekend against Hull. Clearly I want to play, which we all want to do, important though that it is I am working well in practice and harmonizing with the rest of the team… the coach has to decide.”

Karius has been sidelined with a broken hand since mid July after sustaining the injury in a preseason friendly against Chelsea in the United States. Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has today stated the the club has no number one goalkeeper but it has been assumed that the Reds boss bought Karius from Mainz not only to compete with Mignolet but become first choice. We will discover more when the team sheet for the game against Hull is announced at 2pm on Saturday afternoon.
