Liverpool right back Nathaniel Clyne has revealed that manager Jurgen Klopp has given him the nickname “machine” but  he isn’t quite sure what the reason is behind it.

Clyne, who is currently sidelined with a knee injury, is quoted by the Liverpool Echo as saying:

“The manager has called me a machine in the past. I’m not entirely sure why, it’s probably because I play in loads of games and rarely get injured or come off with knocks. All I try and do is my best for the team and try not to complain about anything.”

Clyne has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers this season with his consistency the most likely reason why Klopp calls him by his nickname. The right back will not be the England squad for the World Cup qualifying matches against Malta and Slovenia and should hopefully be fit for the Reds next match against Manchester United after the international break.

His knee injury is something he has been managing whilst still playing over the last few weeks so a week’s rest should hopefully resolve the problem and allow him to be available for the North-West derby at Anfield. Otherwise, James Milner may have to switch flanks to allow Alberto Moreno back into the team.
