21st Jan – Liverpool 3 – 3 Manchester City (Reserve PL North game) – In probably the least convincing defensive performance since the first day of the season, Liverpool reserves went 3-2 down after seemingly looking like running away with the game at 2-1 up. Nikola Saric salvaged a point and most of Daniel Ayala’s best work came in the opposition half. The Spanish defender nearly made it 3-1 before half time after coming close from a Pacheco corner, and shortly after the interval he put away a Nathan Eccleston cross but was adjudged to be offside. He also made a crucial contribution in injury time by chesting down Robbie Threlfall’s long punt into the box, to Nikola Saric who struck the equaliser from short range.
