Nathan Eccleston Match Report vs Gillingham

eccleston sent off6th Mar – Gillingham 2 – 0 Huddersfield – Nathan Eccleston was sent off in the 26th minute for Huddersfield as the Terriers went down 2-0 to Gillingham. The 19 year old would have been doubly disappointed because along with the bad challenge that ended his match prematurely, it was only his third start for the League One side after joining them on loan back in January. Simeon Jackson had opened the scoring for Gillingham 15 minutes into the match after a slow start from Huddersfield but Eccleston, who had started on the wing, was sent off for a poor tackle 10 minutes later. The winger had done well to muscle Adam Miller off the ball but as the ball went loose, Eccleston lunged with a two footed challenge, both legs leaving the ground and fouling Gills right back Stuart Lewis right in front of the dugout. The referee had no option but to send Eccleston off and Huddersfield had to play the rest of the game with ten men. Left wing Anthony Pilkington had to be pushed in field by manager Lee Clark, alongside Anthony Kay and Daniel Drinkwater, to make a three man midfield but it couldn’t prevent the Terriers losing 2-0 after Jackson netted a second just after half-time to seal the victory.
