LFC Youth Watch – Nathan Eccleston v Wycombe

|

Nathan Eccleston 33rd Apr – Huddersfield 2 – 1 Wycombe (League One) – Nathan Eccleston came on as a second half substitute as Huddersfield kept alive their playoff chances with a 2-1 win away at Wycombe Wanderers. It was the first appearance for the Liverpool loanee since his return from suspension and he was keen to make up for lost time. After replacing goalscorer Theo Robinson on 62 minutes, Eccleston was immediately involved in the action. After good work from winger Anthony Pilkington to knock the ball down to him, the young striker controlled the ball but could only volley over the bar from 25 yards out. Already 2-0 up, Eccleston had a chance to make it 3-0 not longer after but he took too long to get his shot away as Wycombe defender Adam Hinshelwood managed to block his goal bound attempt. Despite all of the Terrier’s chances, Wycombe got back into the game through Dean Keates on 73 minutes and Huddersfield boss Lee Clark was forced into trying to conserve his lead after he switched to a 4-5-1 formation when Anthony Kay replaced Gary Roberts 5 minutes later. Eccleston switched to Robert’s vacant left wing position but he still got involved in the play. He was fouled on the left side on 80 minutes and Danny Drinkwater nearly scored from the resulting free kick. Overall, it was a postive return for Eccleston and he will hope to end the season on the high as Huddersfield compete for a playoff position in League One.
