Torres: I hope to see you all on July 11th

|

Fernando Torres has stated his desire for a Spain v England World Cup final on July 11th. Although he hopes Spain win rather than England, the Liverpool striker would love to see England overcome their “mental barrier” of failing to go beyond the quarter final stages. Speaking to the Daily Express, Torres said:

If England can overcome their mental barrier then Spain versus England would be the perfect World Cup final. People say that Spain have the best starting XI in the world but when you look at England on paper, they have the second strongest XI in the world. In John Terry and Rio Ferdinand they have two of the best defenders. Stevie Gerrard is the greatest central midfielder on the planet and Wayne Rooney is one of the in-form players in football along with Lionel Messi. It’s hard to see a weakness in the England team. All they need to do now is break the mental barrier that going out at the quarter-final stage creates.”

Spain versus England would certainly be the ultimate final but if England do get there, let’s hope our opponents are easier than Spain!

couldnt give to s***es as to the world cup, players suddenly getting fit,,,, as they pick up all their millions from the clubs that do pay their bills and etc, disgusting players nowadays…they are all in it for themselves and i tell you all how cares if the country when they are secondry for their clubs.
torres talks and talks at present, but it would help if he was fit to take part in more than half the season. i love it to bits but im getting p***ed of with his attitude. and his latest comments “the world cup is all that matters” oh really thanks for that nando? get fit or sell him for the 80 mill we would get from ripping off man city.

players, please remember it is the man on the street that pays your clubs, then the clubs that then pay you( massivley to much but they do pay you?
    world cup…. couldnt give a fcuk…..

Samuel Charles comments bring to mind how Michael Owen and Harry Kewell suddenly declared themselves fit for ‘Cup Finals’,only to break down within 20 minutes of the game starting !!!. For this reason I can see where he is coming from !!! However I ‘do’ think players should be there for their ‘country’.

davo, agree that they have every right to play for their home land,,, but when you work for a team or company and they give you the money to then go and lead a fantasy life style, and that money does come form me and you , the man on the street, then these players need to be carefull and put their clubs first and the countries second, love torres but he is getting to be a pain in the arse and i for one want him fit for all of the season next year not just 3 months of it, if not and they do long term checks on his body, then sell him for as much as we can get, i know it sounds strange but, he has far two many problems and alot of them come from when he has played for spain?

  • You lot are crazy. If you ask any footballer what they would love most in a football career it’s to win the world cup. The world cup is not about money but being the best in your career. If a player wins a world cup and is one of the best player in the tournament that is good for the club as it attracts players to come along and play along side him
