Two Defenders on Rafa’s Summer Wish List?

Liverpool have been linked for moves for two defenders this summer. They are apparently chasing Rangers defender Madjid Bougherra who could be available from the cash-strapped Scottish champions for £5million. The 27 year old has played in the Premier League before for Charlton and the Algerian international will face England at this summer’s World Cup. Bougherra’s agent Farid Raayad told the Daily Mail that there is interest from the Merseyside club but it may be predicated on Rafa Benitez staying as manager:

“There’s serious interest from three clubs and Liverpool’s is the strongest, but it depends on the future of Benitez. Panathinaikos are also interested as are Fenerbahce.”

Another defender said to be being tracked by the Reds is Micah Richards. According to skysports.com, Richards will be the subject of a hotly contested transfer battle in the summer as Tottenham, Liverpool, Arsenal and Aston Villa all slug it out for the 21 year old’s signature. Manchester City are said to be reluctant to sell but they are willing to listen to offers for the defender.
