Liverpool youngster the star in playoff victory

|

Swindon right back and Liverpool loanee Stephen Darby was the star as he scored the winning penalty in the shoot-out to send the Robins through to the League One Playoff final. The 21 year old was on hand to put away the fifth and final penalty after the tie went into extra-time with the scores 3-3 on aggregate. Swindon took a 1-0 lead into the second leg against Charlton Athletic but an own goal from Simon Ferry and a goal from David Mooney put the Addicks into a 2-0 lead at half-time. The Robins night seemed to get even worse when captain Gordon Greer was sent off but they levelled the tie on aggregate in the second half through Danny Ward. Before full time, Charlton were also reduced to 10 men when Miguel Llera was sent off. There was no breakthrough in extra-time leading to a penalty shoot-out when Darby finished off the tie. Swindon will either meet Millwall or Huddersfield on May 29th for a place in the Championship.
