Rumour Mill: Are Everton beating the Reds to Ajax Defender?

|

Football website ClubCall believes Everton are leading Liverpool in the race to sign Belgian defender Jan Vertonghen. According to the site the Ajax centre-back has been at the heart of a transfer battle between the Merseyside rivals but it is believed Everton have the upper hand in signing the player after having a £9m bid rejected. The Dutch club are only demanding £2m more at £11m for the player, and with the Reds short on funds, it looks like their city rivals could well snap up their long term target. Vertonghen has impressed in the Dutch Eredivisie under Martin Jol after replacing Thomas Vermaelen in the first eleven when he moved to Arsenal last summer. He is left footed, and is equally adept at playing left back and in central midfield. His club Ajax,  finished 1 point behind eventual league winners FC Twente after losing only three games, conceding twenty goals and scoring an amazing 106 goals in just 34 matches.

“and with the reds short on funds”. Because yeah Everton are rolling in it aren’t they. They won’t spend £9m – £11m on a centre back when that is arguably the teams strongest area. If they have that much money then it will be spent on an area required to be. Awful journalism again..

right, enough is enough, agger skrtel, inusa, carra, the greek, ayala, that is enough, why is it that you all think we need hundred new players, we do NOT. young ayala is a great player in the making and could even force his way past skrtel, agger is just fantasic when fit and after getting back to full fitness he is now just a great young player, when he was shipped back to left back he was a very solid performer.
then you have martin skrtel, er no he is not a bad player at all, before his bad injuries, he was as good as they where in the league, and he was, carragher is slower now but out him next to another center half and get that pairing back to what its was then we have enough at the center back options along with kelly who can come in and play there, also the greek who did very well, yes he is slow but as back up he is a good option, the young insua is not good enough to be first choice, but with time will learn form this year, he will and already is a good option for back up, hence why we do not need a new center half but new first choice left back.
we need 4 new player and great ones at that, we have no money? but if we did have, i would like to see the shape and players coming in like this.
