Rumour Mill: Rafa looking at former United man?

|

CaughtOffside.com are reporting that Rafa Benitez is looking into the possibility of bringing former Manchester United striker Giuseppe Rossi to Liverpool. The US born Italian international has had three extremely successful seasons playing for Villarreal in Spain since leaving Old Trafford in 2007 and the player will almost certainly be leaving El Madrigal this summer as the Yellow Submarine’s financial situation worsens. An asking price of £12m may scupper any such deal but there could be the possibility of using Albert Riera in any such transfer to provide most of the fee. According to Rossi’s agent, Andrea Pastorello, the Reds are one of the club’s interested:

“I feel that the player can leave Villarreal because this is a period of downsizing for the club. Several teams like Giuseppe in Italy. Juventus and Roma are important clubs, also Napoli and Fiorentina, but there are no real negotiations yet. I’m not sure whether Rossi will certainly come back to Italy, in recent weeks he was also viewed by several English clubs such as Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham and Manchester City.”

The 23 year old has scored 17 goals in all competitions this season, his best total in his career to date, and he has been named in Marcello Lippi’s provisional 30 man squad for the World Cup.
