Rumour Mill: Reds targeting Valencia forward?

|

Liverpool are reportedly looking into bringing Valencia’s giant Serbian striker Nikola Zigic to Anfield, according to CaughtOffside.com. The 6ft 7 striker spent most of last season as a reserve for the Spanish club but manager Unai Emery is unlikely to want to keep the 29 year old even with the sale of David Villa to Barcelona. Like Peter Crouch, Zigic is as capable with the ball at his feet as he is in the air and was a prolific goalscorer back in Serbia before his move to Spain. During his time at Red Star Belgrade he scored an impressive 71 goals in 110 appearances in all competitions during his three year spell at the club before moving to Racing Santander in 2006. After a successful season there, he was purchased by Valencia for £20million. His time at the Mestalla however invariably saw him used as a substitute and he was sent out on loan back to Santander for the 2008/09 season. After another successful spell though, he found himself on the bench once again for Valencia last season and the club would no doubt be prepared to sell the player. According to the website, Aston Villa are also said to be interested in the player and with a price tag of £8-10m, Rafa Benitez may have to do some wheeling and dealing by including Albert Riera in any such deal.

For those who constantly propagate some ridiculous rumours. It’s important for Liverpool fans to know that LFC do not need to savage the team we have now. We need to add only a few select players to make a real difference to our squad. That can be done with selling some players like Riera, El Zhar, Degen, Plessis, Babel, spearing and dare I say, possibly Mascherano or Gerrard. These players including one or the other of Mascherano or Gerrard could easily bring in up to £50 million.

These funds could be used to maybe bring in the likes LB – Kolorov or Taiwo, LW – Turan, Mata, CM + AM – Milner, Banega or J Cole, ST – Zidic or Higuain. The left side is the key area we need to improve. The money raised would probably enable us to buy 3 or 4 of these players.

    LFC team for next season

    Reina
    Johnson
    Carragher
    Agger
    Kolorov or Taiwo
    Mascherano or Gerrard
    Banega
    Maxi
    Aquilani
Turan or Mata (or both if more money is available)
    Torres

Subs – Cavalieri, Kelly, Skrtel, Lucas, Pacheco, Kuyt and Zidic. There is then still some depth in the squad with other unnamed players and new young signings we already have.

These players are real targets that would change the dynamics of Liverpool’s squad. The 4 players for me would be Kolorov, Banega, Turan and Zidic, and all possible within the £50 million budget.

Liverpool must keep their players especialy Gerrard, Torres and Masherano!
Only problem is that Masherano could force his way out and Liverpool needs him as he is the best defensive midfielder there is with time ahead of him.
Liverpool should do what they can to keep him, but if impossible than get at least 35 mil.

Selling only Yossi and Riera to bring Mata and Mata (or Turan if he is unavailable) should be enaugh.

I wouldn’t mind for one left back or qulity striker but money is an issue here.
Adriano could be good for free, Zigic costs to much for a player that never relly did it for Valencia in his time.
Negredo far better option, but idealy Benzema or Jovetic would fit nicely with Torres!

I would not mind getting rid of Masherano for about 25mil (which is what I would think he is worth). Loosing him would weaken us in the Champs League, but in the EPL against weaker opposition he really doesn’t offer much, and to me the EPL is the main goal now. I think we need to bring in a more creative player, like Banega or Veloso (from what i know they are both deep lying playmakers). I think either could be got for less than 15mil, then you’d have money to get someone like Zigic, who I think would handy for a plan B.
