Spanish Starlet Suso Debuts but Reserves lose in Spain

|

Liverpool reserves are touring Europe in a succession of friendlies until the end of May, but they got off to a bad start in Northern Spain last night. John McMahon’s side lost 1-0 to Badajoz. Reds keeper Martin Hansen will not be happy with how he conceded a goal, as the ball went in straight from a free-kick. On a good note for the side though, young Spanish midfielder Suso made his debut for the club. The player, whose full name is Jesús Joaquín Fernández Sáenz de la Torre, signed from Spanish second division side Cadiz last summer on a five year contract but has remained in Spain with Cadiz since then. He came on as a substitute during the match and showed some neat touches and skills. McMahon commented on the performance to Liverpoolfc.tv after the match:

“It was a good test for the lads in a different environment and we did okay. John Flanagan did really well again at right-back and it was good to give Conor Coady some more minutes in the second half. It was a poor goal to concede and Martin will be disappointed with it.”

The reserves next match will be against Belgian side Gent next week.
