Ireland: I may have to consider my future

|

According to the Daily Mail, Liverpool, Tottenham, Everton and Sunderland are monitoring Stephen Ireland’s situation after the midfielder stated that he was uncertain about his future at Manchester City. The Irishman said:

“There is a question mark over next year for me. I don’t know what will happen. I am contracted to City and all I can do is carry on doing my job and performing well when I am called upon. If anything changes during the summer it will be down to the club, not me. It has been a difficult year because I care so much about my job. I care about my game and about the club but there is a lot of frustration bottled up because I have not played as much as I would have liked.”

Ireland has only featured 11 times under Roberto Mancini because of illness, injury and loss of form. The 23 year old was a PFA Young Player of the Year award nominee last season and only signed a new long term deal at Eastlands last summer, but with the lack of game time, and the likelihood of more summer signings, Ireland could be frozen out at the club and may have to look for other options.

We should be buying him, no phaffing around like we did with Barry, bid and raise it if necessary but get him. He’s a cracker player, used to the premiership and homegrown exactly what we need.
    I doubt he’d cost the earth either…

I think we, LFC, should definately go for him.
If we dont bid for him, especially after sh*tting on about buying more homegrown players and also wasting 17 million on that big lump Glen, then we arent planning on making any decent signings. I think he was superb last season, and has only lost his form due to being dropped because Man City have such a decent squad. He would get a good run in our team. He’s only 23 but I reckon he’s already proven that he has what it takes.
But it wont happen. What will happen is that we wont even bother trying for him, and instead will waste all summer chasing Joe Cole, just for him to sign for someone else on a 120000 a week salary, and then for us to blame Joe for being a mercenary. Then we’ll sp*nk all our money on an injured foreigner. Hooray!!!!

Yeah, because i’m sure City are just aching to sell their 2009 Player of the Year to one of their rivals.

Redordead, Your assumption that we wasted all our money on an injured foreign player is incorrect. We made a down payment of 5 million euro on Aquilani to be followed by 3 payments over then next three years for him. The reason we did this is because the money raised by Rafa last summer was taken by those yanks to pay down the loan they bought the club with. So please try not to mislead because, there are dope heads out there who believe it. They then blame Rafa for wasting money that he never had in the first place

Aquilani 1st year 5 million euro down payment, Johnson £9 million because of crouch money owed to lfc , Soto £1.5 million and maxi advertised at £1.5 million but that was not a transfer fee that is his wages, so maxi was free, total spent in the summer of is 2009 £15.5 million.

Money in, Alonso 35 mill, Arbeloa 3.5 mill, Voronin £1.8 mill, Dossena £4.5 million and £1.65 million in other player sales, total in £46.45 million.

Where has the £30.95 million balance gone. Not on players as promised by the yanks. Another 5 million euro to pay for Aquilani next summer and that will probably come out of 2010 budget. Rafa is fighting an ever losing battle. So called fans please stop reading the newspapers. Rafa to stay for me, the yanks to go and fast, they have not kept promises to Rafa or the fans.

Ireland is history in their squad irrespective of his status in 09. He isn’t gettin games, won’t be happy to continue on bench especially when they buy more higher status midfielders this summer.
We should bid, he knows we’ll play him more often & with our lack of creativity in midfield we need him.
    Go get him….
