“Yossi says that if Rafa stays, then he will go.”

|

A source close to Yossi Benayoun told Goal.com why the Liverpool midfielder wants to leave Anfield. The Israeli apparently believes that Rafa Benitez just doesn’t trust him:

“Yossi loves Liverpool and wants to stay but he feels that Rafa does not really trust him. Whenever Rafa looks to make a substitution or rotate the team, Yossi always seems to be the fall guy, even when he is playing really well. He believes he would be better off playing under a manager who really believes in him. None of the [Liverpool] players really know if Rafa will be manager next season but Yossi says that if Rafa stays, then he will go. He feels he would get more chances at another team.”

Benayoun only signed a contract extension until 2013 last summer but he has strongly been linked with a move to Chelsea. The 30 year old started the season strongly and scored nine goals in 42 appearances, becoming one of the most creative players in the Liverpool team, but he has become frustrated with the manager’s seeming reluctance to pick him as an automatic first choice.

    See you later Yossi!

  • Jack says:

You were playing for a two-bit team and now you seem to think you can dictate things at LFC. Look forward to seeing you warming the bench at stamford bridge.

I hope he has a comfy seat on Chelsea’s bench. He will not be missed too much.

    embarrasing

  • Nabster says:

Losing one our most creative players who can play in any of the 3 positions behind Torres has done great when allowed to play and possibly sold for only 6 million , a joke imo .

If Yossi thinks he’ll get more chances to play at Chelsea than he did at Liverpool, I feel that he will be disappointed

“A source close to” – that old chestnut… desperate, unsubstantiated desperate column filler.

  • ds says:

It’s a giant loss for no apparent reason.

players like ngog, babel, aquilani and on top of all lucas has underachieved while Yossi was almost always on top form.

I think we better sell the other 4 than this one.

  • Andy says:

If Yossi reallly said that, I’ll pay for his moving costs. No one is bigger than Liverpool FC END OF

  • Kaleem says:

Yossi get lost. No one with a grumbling attitude or face like you, Reira, Babel or even SG if he continues to sulk like he did most season withoput being at his best is bigger than the club. Reina being our player of the season should be complaining but he is positive and committed. Yossi will certainly reduce the average age at Chelsea; a 30 year old replacing a 28 year old Cole!!!

    Aside from Rafa, apparently… 🙁

He has a point anyway – all season the only players that would be rotated would be the left wingers, Regardless of how they or the rest of the team were performing, as long as everybody else said that they were fit, the rest of the preferred starters started pretty much every game. Meanwhile the left wingers would be dropped at a whim irrespective of how they performed (even though Benayoun isn’t naturally a left winger, that’s the only place he got to play)

  • Lee says:

If Yossi said that then I can understand.

As a footballer myself, unlike the couch potatoes above, I would hate to play under Rafa. His ridiculous rotation policy and poor man management are a joke and I’m still praying that he leaves.

All this ‘no one bigger than the club nonsense, will get us relegation not a winners medal. We need to look after our better players and try to understand why so many of them dislike Rafa’s antics

  • anteater says:

Look, the post above mine is from Sammy Lee. Even people as close to Rafa (he sits next to him on the bench) as him know that the American owners are not our only problem.

  • Jay says:

I agree with you Lee – I’ve seen it said somewhere else before, but think it may be because Rafa didn’t played to a high level that he so doesn’t understand how to treat players.

While the team is winning it is easy for everybody to keep up pretenses, and his standoffish approach may work, but as soon as results start slipping some man management is needed and he doesn’t know how to do it. He may be the greatest in understanding how football works in theory (although I doubt it seeing how he values work rate so highly, over on the ball quality) but he doesn’t seem to understand how men operate, and footballers are men first and foremost

  • johhhhhn says:

this is all rafa’s fault hes a very bad man manager he never praises anyone and hes got us playing crap football were so reliant on torres and gerrard i wouldnt blame them for going and id hate if they did but i thinkwere loose them 2 and yossi and mayb mash. who we gonna get in to replace them were fucked unlkess we get a rich arab who does what city have done
