A £50million summer clear out? Where will the money go?

|

With the expected clearout of several squad members at Liverpool during this close season, what will happen next?

The likes of Ryan Babel, Yossi Benayoun, Albert Riera and deputy goalkeeper Diego Cavalieri are all expected to depart the club this summer, raising at least £25 million and thats withput mentioning Javier Mascherano who wants to join Rafa at Inter Milan, thats another £25 million at least.

So £50 million raised would give us plenty of buying power for next season. In theory, this should mean that the incoming manager would have those funds raised from player’s sales to reinvest in the squad for the new season.

But will the new boss have any money to spend, even if players are sold?

The club is in debt by £350 million and has to pay £40 million a year just to service that debt, let alone reduce it, so with the Americans are still around, the debt is still around. The only positive is that Hicks and Gillett know that selling the club to a prospective buyer means they will have to make a couple of big name signings in this transfer window.

Otherwise, no rich investors will buy into Liverpool Football Club.

    Right Question….

  • Ian says:

For starters we’re not paying 40 million a year in interest, we’re paying 20 something with the rest of the 30-40 million interest payments building up as debt to H+G’s other company.

As for transfers, the last 3 windows we’ve made a profit, ie we’ve spent our budget then recouped all and some through selling players. Basically we’ve not been given any money from the sale of players for transfers, or very little.

Why would anyone think that will change this window, I certainly don’t expect it too.

your all missing the point we have not spent in nearly 3 years, in fact all players sales have more than covered net spend. untill people wake up and see why rafa had to just walk away without going mad, ! wake up we will not be spending untill we see new owners or we get a message that the owners will not yet again sink the money into other means?
mascherano will be sold, and yes we will as we allways do sell players for well under the value, if we have to sell, its the best time to do it because the market is very very inflated,

1, sell mascherano for 30 mill, he was brought for 18.6 and is twice the player he was then, he has turned into the captain of his home land so why can we not put 30 – 40 mill on his head, fyrther more he has 2 years on his contract. if james milner is rated at 20 -30 mill then do not make me laugh, you have to pay for are players and the price should be at the very least 30 mill. sell reira for 7 mill, sell yossi, had enough of his flakey attitude, he can go for around 7 mill. then ship out that useless cun* babel for around 9-10 mill, sell el zhar, sell darby and spearing, they are just average, kelly is better then pair of them, sell diego for around 1 mill degen can go for around 1 mill, aurelio is gone, sell insua for around 3 mill, sell plessies he is shite he would fetch 2 mill, sell nemeth he wants to stay in greece, what a prick! he will go for aorund 2 mill, you add all this dead wood and if we can get good deals on the above we would have a very strong kitty indeed, but who is going to make these moves, what manager and what manager will try and keep gerro and nando, and will it be to late to buy, we still have to see whos taking over and its all just a shite house mess becasue of two pricks form the usa,

If most of the other seasons under yankee doodle duo are anything to go by, it won’t matter how many players we sell – buying power will still be limited.

  • rolo says:

doesnt really matter at the moment because until new manager comes in we will have no idea what they would prefer. for instance pellegrini plays good attacking football so he will want players from the continent definately. with him being chilean i would hope he could persuade alexis sanchez to come. But if its hodgson he will want to create a tight unit and he hasnt really been given money before to know what he’d do with it. have to wait an see but id sell mascherano and re-invest

  • live4pool says:

H&G’s other company still has to service that extra 10-20 mil in debt and that affects our squad b/c the owners of H&G are the same as Liverpool’s owners so yeah we’re paying 40 mil in debt let’s have no more illusions about that people. the banks still look at the credit history of affiliated companies when considering loaning to owners to acquire/service an asset. that’s just fact. if H&Gco did not exist then would the owners owe that money? no. there is not a separate source of income for Kop Holdings and H&Gco, it’s the same ownership, same source. and it’s that source’s problems that needs fixing if ever this club is to move forward. the point of this article is to discuss/speculate the actions (present and future) of H&G- will they sell players and use the cash to cover the debt? will they find a manager/give him the cash to make moves and fill in the holes in the squad? will they sell before they find a manager? will they look to make a couple signings to increase the value and potential of the club? what course of action is most appealing to potential buyers? that’s the purpose of this discussion. not “what would you do with 50 mil if you were manager?”

  • daboy says:

The yanks will spend nothing surprised Rafa has not told the whole story i feel sorry for the new manager who ever he may be.
I do think the new manager will get funds from sales and thats about all lets hope he is very shrewd.

  • Antix1 says:

Ummm your all saying sell spearing and darby, and thats fine, but the new rule for epl is that you must have at least 8 players in the 25 man squad that are homegrwon, and CL requires 12. So which homegrown talent do you replace them with? Things are looking grim, with stevie looking out of form, and torres nowhere near his best, even if we do have our stars its not looking good, and arsenal first up….and still no manager..WTF. Why did they sack RAFA at such a crucial stage in the transfer window and not have a suitable replacement immediately. H&G have to go, thats a given, but we need to sack the whole board as well. They have their heads up their a$$es and it seems they are doing their best to sink the ship. Purslow, in my opinion, is the devil incarnate. He needs a good kick in the head. This is the first time i’ve really been afraid for the future of liverpool, i mean really afraid. Sure the last 3 seasons have been a nightmare, but to sack a coach and not have a suitable replacement, that just goes to show that the board have totally lost the plot and need to go asap….

  • RedMist!!! says:

    1. Carragher
    2. Gerrard
    3. Kelly
    4. Shelvey
    5. Joe Cole (FREE)
    6. Glen Johnson

Liverpool also have signed a number of foreign youngsters aged 16-21 in the past 4-5 years & I think they now qualify as “homegrown”!

  • Donal says:

Manuel Pellegrini has taken over and been promised a budget of £12million plus any cash raised through sales, the board were basically playing a game of bluff with Rafa ,they had this little bit of money but they wanted a new man to spend it not Rafa, so they wouldnt reassure him he would have any money, he said fine but then they said he wouldnt even have money from sales in the hope that he would quit and save the club £16m, but when he didnt leave of his own accord they offered him £6m which he reluctantly accepted, I feel sorry for Rafa and I am said to see him leave but I do think it is tim for a change even just to lift spirits and bring some hope back to merseyside out-Albert Riera£5.5m, Javier Mascherano£28m,Yossi Benayoun£6,5m,Mikel San Jose£2.5m,Damien Plessis-free,Fabio Aurelio-free,Chrisztian Nemett£3m,Charles Itandje£1m,Diego Cavalieri£3.5m,Nabil El Zhar£1.5m,Philipe Degen£2m, I would love to see Yaya Toure but he is moving to that endless pit of money they call Man. Shitty, ins will be Lassana Diarra£16m,Luis Filipe£12m,Oscar Cardozo£17m,Juan Mata£16m,Milan Jovanovic-free,Joe Cole-free,David James-free

I thik our main problem is how to resist on selling our stars. If we sell TORRES+GERRARD+MASCH, ( as we let ALONSO go last year to Real Madrid without replacing him ), at prices of 70mil pounds+30+25 do u really think that we are bringing to Anfield similar players ??? Can u replace Torres in the field or in our hearts ? What about Captain Marvelous ? And our cocky little Masch, who might be holding the World Cup in July ( unless Gerrard does !!! ) is it possible to bring someone as good/passionate as him ?

I’m so worried about our future guys. I live in Cyprus, but I follow up Liverpool the last 30 years now. If we end up like LEEDS UTD it won’t be a huge surprise to me, because those Americans just don’t give a damn about England’s most successful club. We have to take control over them, make them feel that they’ll have personal cost out of it, and if they don’t want to deal with the club, just sell it, normal price, not 600 million they’re asking.

    YANKS GO HOME
    THIS IS ANFIELD… Bill’s home…
