Ayala: Time for Francisco to shine

|

Liverpool defender Daniel Ayala has backed young Spanish team-mate Francisco Duran to follow him into first team football. Ayala broke into the starting eleven on a few occasions last season, most recently in the 4-0 victory over Burnley in April and he believes Duran could also make the breakthrough. He told Liverpoolfc.tv:

“I think there’s a lot of good players there in the Reserves. In particular I’d mention Francisco Duran, and there are others I think can breakthrough. Unfortunately Francisco has been very unlucky with injuries, but he’s a very good footballer, he’s very good with the ball. He’s also a very good friend of mine off the pitch along with Emmanuel Mendy.”

Duran has suffered three serious knee injuries since joining the club in 2007 but the midfielder found fitness last season and impressed during an extended run in the reserves.

I haven’t seen in Duran what everybody else seems to see in him. I really can’t see him stepping up to the first team. Nor do I see why everybody is getting so excited about LDV.

Behind Pacheco come Nemeth, Amoo & Bruna as our most promising attacking reserves imo
