Benitez: I am very sad to go

|

Rafa Benitez has commented after leaving Liverpool by mutual consent. He said in Liverpool’s official statement:

“It is very sad for me to announce that I will no longer be manager of Liverpool FC. I would like to thank all of the staff and players for their efforts.”

The club have announced Kenny Dalglish will help Managing Director Christian Purslow in searching for a new manager and chairman Martin Broughton thanked Benitez for his time at the club:

“Rafa will forever be part of Liverpool folklore after bringing home the Champions League following the epic final in Istanbul but after a disappointing season both parties felt a fresh start would be best for all concerned.”

no, thank you rafa….FOR GOING!!!!about bloody time! it’s guus hiddink or louis van gaal for me, although with the damn yanks still there, i very much doubt if they’d be interested

  • Mick says:

People like Steve McAuley are not Liverpool supporters. They are just t**ts.

  • samuel charles says:

IS THAT THE SAME VAN GAAL THAT GOT OUTPLAYED BY JOSE INTER!!! YOU F**ING MUG YOU……..

VAN GAAL HAS SPENT OVER 50 MILL IN ONE SUMMER AND STILL CAN NOT WIN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE,, YOU MUG YOU,,,

  • Mo says:

Sad to see him go best manager weve had since Dalglish without a doubt! People have short memories. Hes turned us into a real team and we have a first 11 that is capable of challenging anyone. Only one man for the job and thats Guus Hiddink. Martin onell wouldnt command the respect of the big players the players come with bigger reputations than him Guus is a great man manager and tactically astute! Well just have to wait.

  • dj says:

Your name will still be sung at Anfield. You will be remembered long after those scumbag yanks are gone and forgotten. Thank you Rafa.

  • boris says:

    and steve mcauly,

its the same guus hiddink the manages turkey and turned down inter a few days ago.

    so good luck getting him

you are a sodding idiot for being glad rafa is out. nobody to replace him in the market, and there is a pittance for a transfer budget.

best of lucky as a liverpool fan you titt

  • Azza says:

    Mick, I agree.

What an ignorant comment. With the state that our club is in we will not get a more experienced manager than Rafa.

Rafa – thanks for the good times you bought to the club

  • Morten says:

Seriously Steve, find another club to support, that’s not what being a Liverpool fan is about. It’s fair enough to believe that the best thing for the club is for Rafa to go, that’s a matter of opinion. I was of the opinion that Rafa should leave, I felt the club was stagnating much like at the end of Houllier’s reign and a change was needed, but I’m still sad to see him go. He’s been a great servant for the club and given us some memories we will never forget and always treasure. I wish Rafa the very best for the future and in my eyes he will never walk alone.

  • Mo says:

Whats the odds that Rafas next team meets us in the champions league in a couple of years time and Knocks us out??!!

  • boris says:

    morten,

i hope you notice the extenuating circumstances that occurred last season though?

i mean we were once again without gerrard and torres for chunks of the season. torres had surgery for goodness sake. the players under performed, and we had a beachball score a goal to cost us a game?

granted some tactical decisions were a bit rye. but nevertheless, it was just one bad season.

my point is: hardly stagnating considering we came 2nd the season before?

  • steve mcauley says:

so because van gaal spent £50m in one summer he should have won the CL? how much has roman spent? or real madrid in recent seasons without winning it? are you seriously using that logic to write off van gaal? what a prat!

  • sparq says:

Idiots, Like the guy off Spirit of Shankly said,

Things will not improve until the 2 cowboys leave our club !

The simple fact is, people all have opinions.

I for one still believe that Rafa was the right man for the job, Yet again the man asked for a Sofa and instead was given a lamp ! FACT.

What you guys don’t realise is that Liverpool Football Club, under the guidance of the 2 cowboys have now pulled a very crafty fast one from under all our eye…….

With the World Cup on our door step, and then the players holidays immediately afterwords, the club will tell us that with no manager at the club it WAS hard to buy players this season.

In real terms, with no money, the club has / had no in tension of buying players.

    Calculated timing.

Further more, the only 2 managers who would have appeased Rafa fans like myself have both now committed to long contracts, Mourinho to Real Madrid and Capello to England.

Benitez may have infuriated most of us many times, but a manager with his vast experience we are almost most definitely not going to be able to find. More over who in their right mind would want to come.

What I will say about Rafa, he he has shook our system up, like the guy he put in charge said, it coming along nicely but we’re still 2 years short of where we want to be. A hell of a lot of Rafa signings have been on youth, in the hope you unearth 1 gem.

That 1 gem then goes on to either make his way in to the 1st team or as Rafa is renown for, selling at a huge profit to fund world class players, just as he did at Velencia.

I hate to keep saying this, 4 points we were adrift of Unites last year, all Rafa needed was that cheque book. Things would have been so different now.

Rafa, thanks for some of the my most unbelievable L.F.C memories, Juventus, Olympiacos, Real Madrid, Dynamo Kiev, Inter Milan, United, West Ham
(Gerrard Final, The CSKA Moscow Super Cup and of course Istanbul !

Oh nooooo! sad to see him go.I wish him best of luck “u’ll never walk alone”

  • ken08 says:

Agree with Mo,Inter with good money to spend, pick of his players,he works well with older guys too, come back to haunt us BIG,just like like Valencia did to us before we signed him,YOU BET!!

  • steve mcauley says:

sparq, i respect your opinion mate, but i have to disagree, all the sky news stats today laid out the figures, plain and simple, his net spend has been higher than spurs, villa, arsenal, man-ure, so the reality is mate…rafa bought the lamps! he bought 100 odd players that HE deemed good enough for Lfc and went on to take massive hits by flogging them when they proved not good enough!

  • mario says:

at last no more Rafa that means well to our club . Kenny Douglish is the right man and higgins is good too

  • Cornelius says:

steve mcauley, shut up and you don’t even know what you’re talking about.

Goodison Park is that way mate

  • Cornelius says:

Who the fark are Douglish and Higgins?
    Another Texas pair?!

  • steve mcauley says:

i see all the anti-steve mcauley comments are being left on but all my responses are being deleted! not at all bias then!

  • sparq says:

Steve, believe what you want, In the figures (the great debate on who spent the most Fergie v Rafa many months back) every single Liverpool player was listed, there were over 10 players United failed to include on their list… Just one example was Tosic, he cost United £15 million and has hardly played a game.

When clubs can hide figures (substantial figures), it makes it very hard to see the whole TRUE picture.

I also respect other people comments, as I said at the start of my post, it’s all about opinions.

Reading the above points by different people, we have a first team capable of beating anyone, it’s just the squad need depth and quality. Because we are not at the standard of United and Chelsea, we can’t go out and buy 1 world class star to make everything alright.

It is far easier to maintain a team who is already Premiership Champions, far harder to do the same with a team that finishes 37 points adrift of The Champions (2005 team).

United have 5 midfielders costing 18 million each, 2 strikers costing £30 million a defender who £30 million.

We on the other hand have managed to acquire 2 players in our entire history costing £20 million, Torres world class and Aquillani who for me looks the real deal. Hopefully with a full pre season ahead of him, he’ll come out of the blocks flying !

So to compete on that level, is neigh on impossible. Then you have Spurs and City spending massively of late…….

Your optimism is clearly not shared with the majority of Liverpool supporters.

I just feel this is a sad sad day for Liverpool Football club !
