Five La Liga Players Liverpool Should Look To Sign

|

Pedro Leon (Getafe)

A problem Liverpool have had numerous times last season is scoring goals from midfield. Fernando Torres has been injured a lot and Steven Gerrard has been out of sorts. Does anyone else offer a regular goal threat? No, nor does anyone prove great assistance. Leon has developed into one of the best wide players in Spain and would be a great signing to play on Liverpool’s right wing. He crosses the ball well and without hesitation and chips in with a number of goals. He’s also relatively young and shouldn’t cost that much. Liverpool fans may not have heard of him but he could prove an absolute bargain.

Filipe Luis (Deportivo)

I think it’s pretty obvious that Liverpool need a new left back. Fabio Aurelio’s left and Emiliano Insua’s far from assured. Filipe has been hinting at a move to Barcelona for a year now but whether it will come through or not is yet to be seen. If it doesn’t Liverpool would do very well to step in and sign the Brazilian; he’s awesome going forward and also solid defensively and has proven himself to be the best in his position in the whole of Spain. Deportivo’s asking price is unclear but he could be affordable should sales be made.

Chico (Almeria)

Jamie Carragher’s ageing fast, Daniel Agger’s always injured and Martin Skrtel doesn’t look as solid as he did when he first came to England therefore a centre back should be on the shopping list. Chico’s just had a fantastic season for Almeria and was one of the standout centre backs in Spain. He’s young, shouldn’t cost much and he’d be a useful aerial presence.

Nino (Tenerife)

This is one man Liverpool scouts will probably never think about signing; he’s playing for an unfashionable club who have just been relegated and he’s already nearing 30. However, 14 La Liga goals in one season’s nothing to be scoffed at and he’d be extremely cheap given Tenerife’s relegation. Liverpool need backup for Torres, given the price Nino could make a good signing despite his previous lack of fanfare.

Raul (Real Madrid)

Like I mentioned when recommending Nino, Liverpool could really do with cover for Torres, even better if it’s cheap. Raul is an old player now but the Spain legend’s still capable of hitting the net when given the chance and would relish playing for a historical club like Liverpool. Added to that he’s available on a free transfer. Rumours are that Real are considering giving him a new contract so a move should be made quickly before Real agree to keep him.

all great suggestions, I like leon and felipe luis, and Raul would be a great addition but he might want to stay with real for mourinho’s reign as manager. but the fact remains that until t. hicks is eliminated there is no chance of signing any one of these players, no chance at all I’m afraid, and certainly not any time soon.

All very well, but without a manager who’s going to be doing the buying?! We’ll miss out on Joe Cole as well, put King Kenny in place NOW directors!

  • lfcman says:

they are going to delay getting a manager in for as long possible. the excuse for not buying players will be the manager’s appointment. and then it will be “players are too expensive after the world cup”.

    yanks out

I’m just really glad you are not the manager of Liverpool. We’ll be kissing ourselves to relegation next season with your suggestions. These lightweight La Liga chaps will never survive the hard tackling Premier League defenders. Remember names like Mark Gonzalez. Antonio Nunez, etc? They are cheap and unknowns as well. Forget it! We dont need another season of failure.

haha Kenny D its sad that people that think like that still exist. Cos u need to be 6ft 3 and 14stone to make it in the prem dont u!? Ur right, id much rather have Emile Heskey and Ryan Babel than Luka Modric or Cesc Fabregas.

  • Kenny D says:

    Dave,

You really believe these chaps will turn into Fabregas or Modric? Bruno Cheyrou would have become the next Zidane before these chaps ever make it in the Prem. Another dreamer that needs a slap on the face.

All I’m saying, if we ever wanna take a gamble, might as well pull in some lads from the academy and give them a chance. Look, it does not matter if next season we finish 5th with these la liga weaklings or finish 5th with the academy youngsters. At least the local lads are given a chance to shine.

  • larry says:

Why Raul? Who will pay his wages?
Liverpool can only get cheap players or if new owner come younger players will be interesting to get.

  • boris says:

clearly due to the instability, players arent going to be willing to risk their careers jumping ship to liverpool. and who’s to tell what the new owners will do to the new manager put in place over the summer. so because we should assume that the new manager is a temporary one (purely for our own point of view on things rather than getting ahead of ourselves), like someone said earlier, blooding some youngsters would be the safest+cheapest option rather than spending 10 million on 4 or 5 untested foreigners, because in the end, it’s the same thing, just one option costs us a lot more money. and how exciting would it be to see our youngsters given a chance? it would breath a new life into the club as i would be on the edge of my seat willing the youngens on to try their hearts out for the lifeblood of the club
