Why Purslow should hang his head in shame over Rafa’s treatment

|

Rafa Benitez’s shabby treatment by Managing Director Christian Purslow is now in the public domain.

After six years of dediation to Liverpool Football Club, his departure was swift and ruthless. Benítez said when discussing his departure in an interview with Radio City:

“It was really sad, I was on holiday so it was a surprise that everything was going on in this way, but at the end of the day it has to be like this because Christian Purslow is now in charge and he decided to do it in this way. That is it.”

Hardly the ‘Liverpool way’ of doing things. When Gerrard Houllier was relieved of his duties, the old Liverpool board of David Moores and company held a dignified press conference along with Houllier, thanking him for his time at the club and wishing him well for the future.

That was a luxury not afforded to Rafa Benitez, sadly and our club is all the poorer for it. Hang your head in shame Purslow, why the great haste in sacking the manager when you are taking so long in finding a replacement?

How about my poor treatment by Rafa, going to matches and being bored stupid whilst he overdosed on defensive midfielders. Grow up, rafa went because he was not up to job. Some people seem to think the more they big up Rafa the more of a true fan they are.

  • Lee says:

Well what else would you expect from a Chelsea supporter :S

Absolute disgrace, I hope Rafa proves all his critics wrong and does the treble this year!

    Gone but not forgotten!

  • Lee says:

Have to disagree Steve, if Rafa had been given the money he wanted for the players he wanted, i don’t think we’d of seen some of the line ups we did.

Anyway, lets not dwell on what could have been, lets all hope when the 15th July comes the yanks will have packed their bags and f*kd back off to America

Rafa has treated enough people poorly and doesn’t exactly merit being touched with silk gloves. BTW wasn’t it Rafa who invented the new Liverpool way by washing the dirty linen in public? Openly attacking every staff of the club he didn’t like. I think that Rafa created his own downfall and he should quit coming back at us now with his stupid comments as they don’t help us at all. This kind of behaviour doesn’t exactly resemble professionalism. I wonder how so many fellow Reds still refuse to see things like that.

    Well said steve

  • Runar says:

    I totally agree with anteater

Whether people liked Rafa or not, the manner of his departure was shameful. I actually go to the match and the supporters, on the whole wanted Rafa to stay. Purslow’s sacking of our manager with actually no replacement ready is simply incompetence. To see our once great club scrabbling round for a manager with the mediocre Hodgson as the favourite is woeful.

  • Kaleem says:

A lot of Purslow sympathisers putting up posts! Just a coincidence? Hollier was also accused of boring supporters but was given a decent sending off. If some can’t see the difference, it is their poor upbringing and certainly not the Liverpool way. Purslow will sooner or later face the wrath of supporters because those of us going to the groud regularly have a different mind set and take pride in our traditions, not in shredding them to pieces!!!!

  • Peter Jackson says:

Is this the same Rafa who wanted to get rid of Alonso and replace him with Barry? Have you been watching the world cup? It makes Rafa’s judgment a joke!

  • Frank says:

For those who support Purslow and the way he does things, LFC is a rudderless ship in high seas and in real danger, by supporting the despicable behaviour of the Yanks and Board you are propagating the down fall of our club.

Rafa had the best record of any manager at LFC since king Kenny and those who forget that cant be counted as people who know much about football and LFC.

    Rafa YNWA

  • Peter Jackson says:

Is this the same Rafa who was publically courting Juventus and Inter while still under contract at liverpool, then has the nerve to take £6m and walk straight into another job. Good work if you can get it!! Wake up!!

  • daz says:

Rafa should have been given another year because of his service, he should have been able to learn from his mistakes but also the board should have an gave him money too.

  • Andrew says:

Christian Purslow should not hang his head in shame. Purslow is responsible for obtaining the new shirt sponsorship deal with Standard Chartered which is the one of most lucrative in football today. Its even more lucritive than Man Utd’s current shirt sponsorhip deal. So taking in consideration that he is responsible for this excellent piece of business should he still hang his head in shame??? of course not, its idiots like you who should hang your head in shame for writing rubbish articles like this.

By the way good point by Stevie, yes your right some Pool fans actually do think that it makes them a better fan to back Rafa no matter what, i call it blind faith……..or some might call it blind stupidity.

  • YNWalkA says:

Steve…so tell us why, would the Champions of Europe go for the likes of Rafa???, I suppose you would prefer (Never won anything in 27 years)Hodgson, than eh????.

  • moto58 says:

For the record Purslow never brokerd the deal with Standard Charter, it was done with the help of RBS and their contacts, with Purslow taking all the credit. I think the reason they never gave Rafa the dignity of a press conference , they were scared in case he told the truth, they acted cowardly.

  • Tino says:

Andrew, I think if you check your facts properly, you’ll find that it was Ian Ayre (the club’s Financial Director) who was responsible for that sponsorship deal you’re referring to.

  • RR says:

I disagree with this statement ..

    “You get what you give”

Rafa is where he is because of his own actions.

I thank him and wish him well for the future, but please, don’t right crap about my club, Rafa did enough of that, i want positive chat from now forward …

  • Thomas says:

I wish all the doom and gloomers would just stop with all the nonsense. It was clearly time for a change and anyone who watched LFC play last season could see that, including the board. I for one am excited for the fresh start. Hey, maybe get a manager in there who plays two up front, or maybe just one DM instead of two against the likes of Stoke, Wigan, and et al.

It was the right move and Purslow has nothing to be ashamed of.

  • Runar says:

Of course we could have handled the sacking of Rafa in a more dignified way, and he probably deserved that. But Rafa time was up. I can point out a few reasons. 1. It is not good enough for LFC to finish 7th in the league. Especially after 6 years in charge and only one of those 6 teams above us spent more money for the last 6 years. 2. We also played a boring defensive football, even against teams like Wigan. If we had playing attractive attacking football under Rafa things might have been different. 3. The players had lost faith in Rafa. You could just see that be looking at the faces and body language of the players for the latter half of last season. Some players even shook their head in disbelieve when Rafa was making changes.

  • YNWalkA says:

RR….What are Rafa’s actions than?, and why would the CHAMPIONS of EUROPE….employ him???, if he was that bad?, He WILL better Morinhio at Inter by far…..Mark my words!.
