Would Roy take some of his Fulham Pals with him to Anfield?

|

With some reports stating that Roy Hodgson will be appointed Liverpool manager within the next 48 hours, I thought it might be interesting to consider whether he would bring any of his Fulham players with him who helped him get the London club to the final of the Europa League.

Brede Hangeland – A tall, commanding defender, the American born Norwegian has been a towering figure at the back during Fulham’s Europa League campaign last season. Rumoured to be a target of Arsenal last summer, Hangeland opted to stay with Fulham and the 29 year old has had another solid season at the back both in the Premier League and in Europe. At 6ft 5, Hangeland may not be the quickest of defenders but he is a commanding presence in the air. Would he be a good acquisition for Liverpool though? With Daniel Agger, Martin Skrtel, Sotirios Kyrgiakos and Jamie Carragher we are not short of players in the centre back position but he maybe a possibility for one reason, a replacement for Sami Hyypia. One of things most notable last season was the lack of solidity at the back in some matches, and with the assured presence of the Finnish veteran no longer in the squad, it looked on occasion that the Reds had a soft centre. Kyrgiakos did an admirable job in his stead but for me, he is just not as commanding as Hyypia. Perhaps Hangeland bought for a reasonable price could be that assured presence.

Danny Murphy – The architect and creator in Fulham’s long European run, Murphy has always been a Liverpool supporter and had a fantastic first spell at the Merseyside club. At 33 now though, the midfielder for me is just too old for a return to Liverpool. A player who could most probably play the Alonso role in midfield for the Reds, but I feel we should be looking at players of both a younger age and of a slightly higher calibre if we really want to push the club forward. Any new manager should be looking long term rather than short term and any look back to a player who has had his time at the club would be a step backwards for me.

Zoltan Gera – Now a cult figure at Fulham after scoring the deciding goal in the Europa League semi final against Hamburg, the Hungarian international is a capable player playing on either wing or behind a striker. He scored 10 goals in all competitions last season, his best while playing in the Premier League, and is certainly capable of creating as well as scoring his fair share of goals. Perhaps he could be a short term cheap replacement for one of the few wingers that could be leaving Anfield this summer but I can’t really see how the 31 year old could add anything to the team.

Bobby Zamora – The striker has had one of those seasons for Fulham. He couldn’t buy a goal at the start of the season but he has set alight during the latter stages of the season, with some even touting him for a World Cup squad place. A player who was a consistent goalscorer earlier in his career at a lower level with Brighton, Zamora has taken his time to mature in the Premier League. He is a very capable target man who can hold up the ball very well, but his hot and cold streaks in front of goal make him an unreliable striker in the top division, and he is somebody no new Liverpool manager should be looking at to solve our striker shortage.

Yes, all the top clubs are after Fulham players! The idea that Liverpool would want any Fulham players, let alone their mediocre mananger, is ridiculous. Yet this is what the Americans and the useless Purslow have brought us to.

  • poor little scousers says:

fulham team is a better team than liverpools liverpool just have a couple of world class players that has dragged them along torres , gerrard,if they leave then u are in deep trouble and u will see how bad your team really is

Fulham better than liverpool? dont make me laugh, great achievement by fulham this season but lets not be silly. anyway, back on topic, the only two that should even be considered are hangeland, but more so zamora. though i wonder if zamora will ever have a season as good as this one. even heskey scored 22 one season and look how much stick he gets now

    No.2 obviously a little retarded.

Roy Hodgson will not be manager of Liverpool football club…..he isn’t good enough and neither are his players.

    End of…close the thread

  • poor little scousers says:

I didn’t say fulham have a greater history or the 2 world class players u have for now

but as a team with the europa league they showed they are a better team on the big stage

perhaps the decline of liverpool has only been noticed by every one except arm chair scousers who still thing they are great

If he brought Dempsey with him I wouldn’t be angry. poorlittle: and what did Fulham win again? right. nothing. so shut it. your opinion is obsolete.

  • poor little scousers says:

I am not a Fulham fan, I am just stating facts, Liverpool are Englands most successful football club

But your present squad is weak as results show, and the troubled board and owners have shown and progressed onto the pitch

Liverpool are not the club it once was,not a European super power, just a mid table team ,like the Fulhams and Evertons and Stoke. And unless you receive new owners who can pump vast sums into the club ,buy a new stadium buy at least 6 world class players ,then expect to have a average manager for a average mid-table team

Hangelaand would be a good signing if Liverpool fans could get rid of their sentimental attachment to Carragher (which does need to happen sooner rather than later) and give up on Skrtel, who is just not good enough. Agger & Hangelaand backed up by Carra, Soto & the youngsters would be solid.

The only other player I’d look at from Fulham would be Konchesky. By no means is he a world beater, but he would be a relatively cheap short term option and is a Premiership proven solid leftback. As long as we improve further up the field, all that we need from our left back is for him to be solid and play the offside trap effectively.

One good season doesn’t make Fulham a better team than Liverpool (even when they have a bad season). Roy Hodgson, nice guy, possibly over achieved last year but other than that strictly average.

Purslow and the rest hang your heads in shame at what you have done to our once great club.

  • Paul says:

We dont need all this player, the player i think we need in Fulham is Dempsey
